| Bittorrent suddenly very spotty
I'm in the Toronto area and starting this morning I'm having very poor performance on Bittorrent, though speed tests run by dslreports come back fine, low latency etc., and port forwarding and all that is fine.
Anyone else seeing a sudden change? |

| well not very much info on your set up, but I would just say since not mentioned by you that you are now throttled by Bell like everyone else and look into MLPPP to get around it. do a search in thexse forums lots will turn up explaining what throttling effects also what you can do to avoid it |

| Sorry, I should have mentioned that too: I am already using MLPPP and this is nothing to do with throttling. What I am experiencing is upload and download cutting in and out, from full speed down to zero.
I'm mostly just curious to see if anyone else is experiencing this kind of problem. |

| My speeds here have also been very erratic.
Yesterday on a well seeded torrent I was running just under 600 d/l on MLPPP single link then today it started off at 185 then dropped to 45-60 and then up to 129 and back down right away to 48, running on 34 seeds out of a possible 13,552 seeds.
I did try rebooting my modem and router but it's not any better. |

1 edit | reply to tmilne Today is a holiday in the US and here in Canada so maybe it is increased traffic because more people are at home today. I have noticed this on other holidays.
Edit:
On the other hand more people at home also means more peers online so I guess... max out your number of slots. -- "No matter where you go, there you are." - Buckaroo Banzai |

| lol, that was certainly not my intention. When I originally posted this question, my suspicions leaned toward a technical problem from storm damage. It seems to have corrected itself here, so I'm going to assume it was something like that, and it has now been fixed |

1 edit | reply to justsomeguy said by justsomeguy :nah thats not possible, lets start some "Bell has finally figured out how to throttle MLPPP" hysteria... The past couple of months I have noted many anomalies with my torrents.. I've posted plenty about it with proof and people say it's port issues, or machine issues or something isn't configured right.. I have 2x5056 lines and I NEVER max out my torrent connections. some days i'm lucky to hit 200kB/sec. other days I don't seem to be able to seed, even with 1000+ leeches.
I'm not saying it's throttled but it wouldn't be that difficult for Bell to figure out how and implement it if they really wanted to. And i'm sure they do. |
