Re: Believe

FAPman-

The modem wasn't unplugged at the time of the high traffic. There was just no connection from it to the rest of my world due to the router being down. If Hughes wants to chat with their modem they need to do it on their dime, not mine.

I got to an engineer after asking questions that ECC couldn't answer. ECC also gave me names and direct numbers to people in residential sales, business sales, english speaking support and others. They all were supposed to convince me to take whatever deal ECC was offering until I started asking questions that they couldn't answer by script and had to actually think about. For all I know, they are the same kind of engineer as I am. Had my 'degree' since I was 5, says LOINEL across the top.

As far as unattended updates, I dont have the time to babysit each byte as it comes in. If Hughes throttles me back to dialup or slower during the free period, a 300MB service pack will take more than the 5 hour window to download. That way they force your traffic into their tolled hours. Gas is crazy, but I haven't experienced a price increase while still filling the same tank. Hughes sets the nozzle on slow to make sure they can get the price change in before you're done.

To control most of my updates, I'm running a server/client network. The server queries each PC and downloads the required updates once and deploys them out to the clients. By the same token, if I have to reload one of my kids machines or add a new one, the server already has any updates since the image I install, saving me the bandwidth normally needed to bring them up to speed.

To point

So i'm guessing that the "engineer" or "field technician" your referencing is just a installer or hardware maintenance tech who is just a dealer of hughes equipment?

Well they can answer if you are persistent and defined in your questions. Might take them awhile to answer but definitely more detailed than the average rural consumer could possibly understand unless educated in the field of telecommuncations. Just like they wouldnt be able to understand the EPD for cattle.

There is no force in it, you choose to download updates probably without knowing what those updates do let alone if they are required or are just based on implied personal or intended use of security threats.

Not saying you should have to baby sit every byte and you shouldnt have to which is why i question hughes policies every time i get a chance to. Most lead to no where but few lead to remedy. No one and i really mean no one in sales could possibly know the definitions of service because they deal in assumptions and implications, even shorter "heresy".

Re: [HN9000] Explanation from ECC for Slow Speeds

Another day and we will see if their offer is a resolution to the problem. 5 speed tests tonight yielded a best result of 74k down and 175 up....(don't ask me it's their network) It has actually been usable since last Thursday night but last night was starting to crawl again. I usually don't have issues with FAP and when I do I know why. I did it so it's not hard to tell. I had to grab the pro-plus plan to be able to make that claim but now my plan suits my needs so its not an issue. My issue with them is they sell a service that by name alone is very descriptive of speeds and they make claims of those speeds and tell you "you can expect" but if you are getting sub dial up speeds consistently they tell you doesn't matter. Web response test 20 seconds or less.. GOOD ENOUGH customer. my speeds were in the 50's before I got up to 20 seconds on the web response test. I couldn't even load the Hughesnet home page and my web response test was ok so their response was. Yeah, That's too bad. Really sucks to be you. We don't guarantee anything. Their subscriber agreement means nothing. I reminded my contact at ECC of that. I told him in case you don't remember when Hughesnet was Direcway they were sued and lost anyway. The reason for that is that the subscriber agreement means nothing when your speeds are dial up and sub dial up because those speeds are not classifed as broadband high speed internet in anyones world. So therefore the Subscriber agreement I agreed to for high speed broadband service did not apply since I was not getting any such service.

so far so good though. I do see a credit on my account already for an install so they are true to offer thus far. Day after tomorrow for the install. I actually don't mind sparring with them. Either way I'll have something to do on Thursday evening. I'll either be on the net or on the phone. Either is kinda fun....:))

Got the new equipment. Installer did a professional job. Of course had to get a pole mount but that was ok too. Now when it gets snowed on I can actually clean it off. Speeds whent he installer left were in the 1500k range at 2pm. At 6pm EST speeds started dropping and by 7 they were back in the 50's again just like before. The free equipment upgrade offer did not solve the problem. The new Ka band, new bird did not solve the problem. It acts just like the Ku and the old bird did. Every night at 6pm speeds start to grind down and by 7 or so are at dial up speeds and they pretty much stay that way all night. The only difference I do see is upload speeds are much better and they seem to not be affected during peak hours.

Hughesnet's response now: We don't guarantee speeds. Cancel if you don't like the service. Have a nice day.

And everyone in these forums kept telling me it was "all in my mind"......WOW! Sure did alot of people having the same issues I was start popping up.
I'm now seeing it "wasn't me"....other folks have the same EXACT issues I was experiencing...... I fought it for 3 months.

Then again there are users that have no problem, I wonder if it is a service plan or down-link cell overcrowding.

I know there are inherent problems with satellite internet but I absolutely love Hughes net, compared to the dial-up I had before this is a godsend. I think a lot of problems can be solved by good optimization, I use Advanced System Care from IOBit and it has a connection optimizer in it plus all the other options the software gives makes my computer run very well. If a computer handles a connection badly regardless to the service used it is gonna be slower than on an optimized system. If someone has a problem with their connection I would suggest that you try your absolute best to eliminate any possibility of problems on your end and make sure the plan you have will support the level of use you want, 2.5 months and not been fapped yet and couldn't be happier. It wasn't my equipment (usually what Hughesnet blames).

Three systems...... 1 Desktop XP, 1 Desktop Vista, 1 Laptop Vista 64. Doesn't matter what system it was on.

Everyone obviously has different experiences.

Small but insignificant problems on my end due to things i cant or hughes cant control. I on the other hand like to FAP around 3-4 times a month and couldnt be happier. Hughes really is 100x better dialup whether people want to admit it or not. yeah throttles will happen but your still at least 6x dialup!

People need to note that every account is a little program with the profile for the users service.
So what could happen is the user still has a profile(by full name/address) designating the user as a KU throttle target, well the upgrade may not work and the same throttles will still kick in as for the transponder/satellite the user was on before.

Canceling the account and starting all over again may have an old profile resurrect from the system.

6x dial up is a bit of an overstatement, with this constant throttling I'm lucky if I see any better than 1.5x - 2x dial up speed. Even simple web pages have been crawling.

Something went wonky with page load times and speed with that last update Hughesnet ended up rolling back.

Optimized Computer connection? I should be proactive not reactive. I agree with that statement but I need to reiterate perhaps my statement of at 2PM my speeds were 1500K... That being the case my computer must become unoptimized at 6pm or so every night... I would be ecstatic if my speeds were 6x dial up. I even told Hughesnet I would be happy with 300k. My plan is the problem??? I have the pro-plus and pay 79.99 a month for it. The next plan is 119.00 a month. If I upgrade to the elite plan are there any guarantees that my speeds will be any better. Nope.... They don't guarantee anything remember??? Up until APril I was happy with the service just like you guys. I hope it stays that way for you. Otherwise get ready to optimize your connection...

Your connection does not necessarily become "unoptimized" but I do believe that an optimized connection can definitely make the difference between 2x dial-up and 6x dial-up during those peak hours. I know it has for me.
I think that everyone has slowdowns during the peak periods, I have noticed them since the second or third day, that is just an evil of the "service" we have unfortunately. Optimization and maintenance just reduce the amount of drop-off, at least on my set-up.

Run the hughesnet test and the dsl speed test tonight at 8pm George. Post the results. I'd love to see how fast an optimized connection is.

It would have to be between 9-9:30 tonight for me (Church 7-8:30) or I could do it at 8pm tomorrow night, your choice.

I don't buy that at all. Adjusting your settings is just a superstition thing keeps you busy, makes you feel that you have some control. It's really Hughes' throttling or congestion plain and simple. Though this connection resetting is a new tactic. I've used Hughesnet for years and seen it go all over the place from frozen to consistently fast for months and the computers stayed the same throughout.

I know that when our account is working right, those complaints seem like whining or something, you tend to think that it's fine with me, I must be doing something right.

Just wait, sooner or later you'll get hit with it hard and then you can tweak your computer all you want and nothing will get better until Hughes makes it better.

It's a shame they are not having their feet held to the fire for this. We need to find a way to create some industry wide buzz that will make them consider delivering 50% of account level an absolute minimum, not a target for better hours.

They are really pushing it now. It's the worst I've seen it.
