| New Firmware
Has anyone noticed that the new firmware for the 2700HG-B (5.29.109.5) is causing some sort of DNS problem? When I am browsing the web, on any site, my web browser will sometimes take forever to load a page. After it's done it will say "Server Not Found," and I have to then click try again to get it to work, and it does, but it's a pain, and a waste of time. I've tried using different browsers and computers, but the same thing happens. Is there any work around for this? I'm really getting tired of it. |

1 edit | Yes. Same thing here. However I wasn't sure if it was the forced firmware upgrade or something else. But definitely more prevalent now.
EDIT - BTW, Have you looked at your Broadband detailed stats recently? Curious if you too are seeing lots of errors. |

| reply to Ya Mon Yep...I'm actually on support.2Wire.com seeking help. A lot of people are talking about issues their having since they (2Wire? AT&T?) pushed out this new firmware.
Me personally, I'm having problems with my 2700HG-B restarting and/or losing the DSL connection very frequently. I'm looking to just drop the 2Wire gig now and move on to a third party router; either with this thing as the modem--or one of the dummy modems AT&T provides.
I don't see 2Wire or AT&T pushing out a firmware fix soon, this is surely the route i'll take, because the total loss in inter access for 5-10 minutes at a time is getting crazy. |

@pacbell.net | reply to Ya Mon Yup, there's a few more errors than usual, I normally do not have ANY, but there are quite a few now, and the link will retrain every once in a while, which NEVER happened before. |

@sbcglobal.net | reply to Ya Mon Have you tried eliminating the 2wire as middleman by explicitly defining the DNS servers on your computer? |

@pacbell.net
| reply to Ya Mon Oh, duh. If you explicitly set the DNS to 68.94.156.1 and 68.94.157.1, it does not seem to have the problem anymore. It would still be nice for me not to have to do that to every computer connected to my gateway, and then still have to type in the 2Wire's ip rather than just home if I want to get to the settings. |

| reply to Ya Mon After three days of up time, there have been four ATM cell header errors, and eight uncorrected blocks. Those are no big deal, but there have been six link retrains, which suck to have happen when your playing an online fps. I never had these issues with the old firmware, and nothing has changed about the line since then. |

 daveinpoway Premium join:2006-07-03 Poway, CA | Have you checked your line statistics? Word on the street is that the new firmware makes the modem less tolerant of marginal line conditions. |

@pacbell.net
| reply to Ya Mon My line stats seem to be pretty good. |

 daveinpoway Premium join:2006-07-03 Poway, CA | Yes, the statistics look fine.
Perhaps 2Wire would send out the old (5.29.47) firmware to you if you asked them. They would also have to somehow lock your modem so that it wouldn't automatically load the new firmware again in the future. |

| reply to Ya Mon I'm also having problems with dns resolution but I am using the latest BT firmware. dns resolves fine unless any machine is either downloading or sending data over the lan.
The other problem I have when someone in the house is either downloading or if I'm sending data between computers is the wireless connection failing (if I boot my laptop up then i get a network error if I'm downloading etc)
I shall try setting the dns manually on each machine and see if it helps. |

@pacbell.net | reply to Ya Mon Nothing new, just more link retrains. DNS is still not a problem after manual setting. Kind of annoying to have happen during an online game. |

@pacbell.net | reply to Ya Mon The link retrain I mean. |

| reply to Ya Mon Wow - I thought this was just my issue lately. I have experienced the exact same thing. Just decided to contact AT&T this morning about the issue - then saw this post afterward - how coincidental!
The AT&T tech first tried to give me the old "these are just common errors you see when browsing the Internet" line of bull. After I protested, they immediately said "oh, you must manually set your DNS servers on your computers." Fortunately, after doing so, things have seemed to return to normal.
It seems obvious that this is a known issue with AT&T/2Wire firmware that is not being addressed upfront. |
