 DC-area Roads: WTF??

So, this week, got $1300+ worth of suspension work done on my car - new front bushings, rear wishbones, four wheel alignment, etc. (I've had it for 8 years so, things were wearing out). Got this work done, yesterday. Tonight, I drove it into the city. Towards the end of the 14th Street bridge - that part that's definitely maintained by DC - I hit this pothole that bends the bead on my front-left wheel. It's probably safe to assume my newly trued alignment is jacked. Gotta see if I need to replace the wheel.

I can drive through NoVA and my only real worries are road debris and the occasional speed b/hump. Even most construction zones are pretty smooth, all things considering. You go into DC and it's like driving in a third-world country. I could maybe understand side-street not having the best maintenance, but the main drags?? WTF?

When I lived there 30 years ago, DC was notorious for potholes.
(just wait until the winter ice)

There is something in me that says potholes have to be on major arteries so that the members of congress who vote the budget hit them and are jolted into giving DC more money.
Potholes on the side-streets don't send the message (they mean the local elected get the heat).

In the 16 years I've lived here, every non road-debris related flat I've had in the Metro area has been either in DC or Maryland. There just aren't the road hazards in NoVA that there are in MD and DC.
