The 4th core might work and isn't necessarily faulty, marking stuff down unnecessarily to meet demand for lower products is standard practice.
I'd be worried about what could happen if the core is defective though, mainly the computer failing to POST and thus not letting you change it back.
It looks to be a BIOS setting though? I suppose clearing the CMOS would get things working again.
Go for it. I'd say it's very likely, especially if they've gone through a couple of revisions of the chips, that all 4 cores work and they're just marked down to meet demand for X3 chips. |

Alma, AR | How to you enable it? I have a bios tar TA790GX 128M it has bios safety features built into it I will get a bios flash file before I do any thing just in case something goes wrong I can re flash the bios. |

| Since you have a Biostar board, you should only have to set ACC to 'auto' in the BIOS, then reboot.
I was able to unlock my 720 BE on my Biostar mATX board by doing this. Of course you might have to raise your voltage a little (1.45v) to stabilize things, but this is your best bet.
If this doesn't work, chances are you have a (truly) bum core.

You should disable the splash screen option (t-series screen) in your BIOS...
Not saying that would help, just saying it's a useless feature which should be disabled to speed up booting |

Raise your vcore to 1.45 (you are safe up to 1.5-1.55). Then start raising your mulit. You should be able to hit 3.5-3.6ghz without hardly trying. |

Multi is your muliplier... you are currently at 14x... Try raising to 16x and reboot. If that works and tests out fine, raise to 17x. This 'mulitplier' is unlocked, hence why these are Black Edition processors (unlocked muliplier which allows you to define what your processor runs at). |

It's better to do this in the BIOS. Also, unless you have aftermarket cooling I would not overclock at all. |

I've always used several (3 to be exact) instances of Orthos. Load up three instances, then CRTL-ALT-DEL to set affinity on each instance so Core 0, 1, and 2 each have an instance. There could be other ways to stress the CPU, but this is what I've used with success.
Also, make sure you keep an eye on your temps. High temps is what kills CPU's, so ensure you are not seeing anything higher than 50+c @ full 100% load. Mine is around 45c w/ full load having 3.6ghz on each core with 1.45vcore. |

Alma, AR | I bumped it down where to where it was. It was getting getting going to 53C and I put it back where it was. its now 45 C at full load. I used AMD over dire stability test. |
