verizon crapping out in queens NY

for like the past 3 days, my fios service service which is a 20/5 has been only getting 1-4mbit download and 1 mbit upload with a ping of around 1600ms from the speedtest.net

this is my speedtest at night

around the morning time, the speedtest site doesn't give accurate time

19.7mbit down 4.62mbit up

and this is it in the afternoon

0.66mbit down
0.22mbit up

Before when I had the standard 3mbit DSL, i had this problem also but it went down to slower than dialup speeds in the afternoon and after about 3 days spending about 4-5 hours on the phone at a time working my way up the support chain to get a competent worker, I was finally able to get someone who understood that the problem was not with my PC or router, and they sent out a worker who did his own test and was able to make a few calls and get me switched to a new route on the verizon network,

it sucks that this is happening again. PS it took about 5 minutes to load the this page to and then to log in and all of that other stuff, the entire process has taken about 15 minutes, thats how slow my connection currently is

even though the speed test is saying .66 mbit, i cant get a stable connection in even skype and things are too choppy to even do a skype call.

is anyone else having similar problems?

As many of you may know, a router failed in the Verizon network this afternoon causing problems for some Verizon FiOS and High Speed Internet users. Here’s what happened.

The router in question is in New York City and handles traffic from the Verizon network to the larger Internet. It is one of a number of such routers in our network.

When routers have problems, they are designed to report that they are sick. Internet traffic is rerouted to adjacent routers automatically and sent around the trouble spot. In this case, that didn’t happen. The router went into a hung state and did not appear to the rest of the network as though it was having problems.

That meant that some user traffic from the northeast continued to flow to the stalled router, but couldn’t be processed. Presto – an outage for those users. Verizon FiOS, High Speed Internet and small business customers were affected.

The problem occurred at approximately 3:15 EDT and was detected and resolved :40 minutes later. Traffic began to flow normally and customers returned to service at that point.

Currently, we’re monitoring the router and the network watching for any other problems.>

still seems to be messed up here though, currently 5:43 PM and my speeds are still around 500kbit down and 80kbit up and my ping is too high to to even use anything other than a web browser.

speedtest: it has actually gotten slower

80kbit upload and 500kbit download and a 1153ms ping.

skype as well as my other im programs and my other networking devices such as my cellphone that supports wifi to get service since tmobile sucks and i get 1 or 0 bars reception in my area, ping is too high for it to use wifi for calls. the only thing that works fine is google and this site but they take a few minutes to load

the things that really sucks is that the service has been getting slower long before this network problem with the railed router. when I first got verizon fios, the first few days, my speed test pings were about 2ms and my download speeds were around 19.8-19.9 mbit/s and my upload speeds were 4.8 to 4.8 mbit/s all the time

then after about 2 weeks, the speed began slowing down in the afternoon and speeding up at night and early morning hours and the ping began to be around 6-15ms all the time , since then the window o slow access has been getting wider and wider, before it was just a few hours a day now it is almost half of the day. it is only getting worst.

Greater Boston here,

AFAIK (about 2:00PM today), my internet is shot. I can't resolve a quarter off all domains and I can't connect to half all of sites. The sites that are down are sporadic as well. One minute google will work fine, next it wont.

Suffolk county here and I'm having some speed troubles, especially things like forums when posting (VBulliten, for example). Gah, and I got FIOS about a week and a half ago! I never had troubles that soon when I was still with Cablevision..

Somehow I am getting full speeds but the response time for some websites is just longer than expected.

Also, speedtest.net flat out refuses to run the speed and latency tests..it just hangs when it shows the speedometer..anyone else?

Current troubles may be related to the level3 network. The earlier failed router in the northeast has supposedly been fixed and traffic re-routing as necessary.

Line quality still shows problems out west. »/linequality/nil/2571416

same here currently, it sometimes runs and sometimes doesn't

this problem is no longer on their backbone it is within the verizon network as it is slowing down video on demand and if you watch a on demand video the internet slows down even more

Somehow on the Secaucus, NJ test I am getting 500ms ping, 1Mbit down and 0.25Mbit up while the NYC speedtest on this site shows 25Mbit down and around 5.5Mbit up..so which one is telling the truth?

Yet the test to London shows a normal 25/5 speed but various spots around the world have various speeds as expected.
