| reply to best4me said by best4me :Vonage has 5000 minutes cap NOT 500. Is that 5000 including the international calling? I know their normal cap is 5000 but could you in theory call 5000 worth of international minutes? -- "So, Lone Starr, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb."

| reply to xon said by xon :said by kurra :Thanks Josh for trying to get # of minutes used option to be included in CP. What would be cooler is if your ability to call international is cutoff after 1200 minutes (make this configurable of course). This will avoid unnecessary headaches in dealing with surprise overages and also avoid having to keep checking the minutes. Can we have this feature (please)? I wish cell phones plans would do that. Ok the prepaid of course do it but all the other normal type live off overages. |

| reply to VTJosh Hey Josh, What's going on with the feature ? Anything I can do to help (like test it out or something)? If you are running into issues with anything fancy I would appreciate it if you could make some basic functionality available first (a simple minutes used this period would suffice). Thanks.

| Yea, I just checked it out. It looks pretty good with the exception of the default time period it would search was the account's bill period. Now it looks like it searches calendar month. I would rather have it default to the billing period (although I never come close to going over the un-limit). |

Glad they added search via callerid and partial matches, makes searching easier. |

The whole point for the feature request was that we would like to make sure we are not going over the rather limited 1200 minutes during the billing period. The current display shows the minutes used in a calendar month rather than for the billing period which does not help the cause. I appreciate the effort that is being put in but please make it usable, as it stands right now the total international minutes used count for the calendar month is just another useless number (how could this possibly be useful in any way?). Perhaps you can add a field where the user can specify the start and end date (I'm assuming that it is a bit hard to programatically extract the billing period dates) and you can have the tool compute the international minutes used during the given date range. Also, if you go to the beginning of the thread, Josh promised a feature to automatically disable international calling if over limit. Is this being worked on still?
Thanks. |

If you want to know your usage for the current cycle, you'd simply need to enter that as the start range for your search. If your account renews on the 10th each month, a search for Oct 10 - Oct 28 (today) would return the current usage for this cycle.
Doing it this way rather than hard coding it to your billing cycle allows you to see usage details over any period of time.

Doing it this way rather than hard coding it to your billing cycle allows you to see usage details over any period of time. Yes, but the same could be said the other way too. The first concern someone has is that they are not going over their monthly minutes, which is measured by their billing period.
If you are concerned with your usage over a calendar month, you'd simply need to enter the first of the month as the start range of your search.
This has the bonus of working the same as it has for at least the three plus years I have been a customer of VT.
What would be the practical reason for changing the default search period?? I just doesn't make sense.

From looking at the display it was not obvious that the date range specification controlled the usage details summary at the top. It would be nice to have it default to the billing period but I'm happy with what there is right now. With any other cable/telco provider I would not have had any chance of getting any of these nice little things. Thanks again. |

The whole point for the feature request was that we would like to make sure we are not going over the rather limited 1200 minutes during the billing period. The can probably enhance this to protect both them and the client.
In addition to the 1200 minute limit allow preset spending caps. So if someone normally averages $10 a month in international calls they can place a lock at say $15. That way if someone does hack the ata or manage to get user credentials they are protected and Viatalk doesn't have to eat excessive fraudulent use. (Assuming they don't also have access to the CP)
Edit: Now that I think about it all they need is an international calling allowance. If you have the world plan and don't want to go over the minutes you would set it for $0.00 If you don't care if you go over a little and/or call some countries not on list you would set it at $10, $20 ect. |
