| trouble with new earthlink modem
I am trying to use a new ZyXel P-660R-D1 DSL modem with Snow Leopard. The old modem works fine, but the new one won't establish a DSL connection. EarthLink tech support's answer is to keep sending new modems, but I have received 2 and neither will connect. Any ideas? |

1 edit | What is the Brand and Model of the old working Modem?
The ZyXEL P660R Modem/Routers will work with any OS. It has to have a solid Green DSL LED to work or if it is not on or is flashing that means it does not see any DSL signal on the line.

@covad.net | The old modem is a ZyXel 645M. EarthLink seems to think there is a problem with my phone line (slow speed). Would that affect the 660R-D1 more than the 645M? Is it more sensitive somehow? |

| I'd have to see the DSL Stats from the working Modem, but normally if a P645M works then a P660R should also work.
Look at the printed label on the bottom of the P645M for UHP. If it is a UHP Modem, the DSL Stats are easy to obtain using any web browser when directly connected to the Modem, but if it is the non-UHP Modem you have to use Telnet and enter a few commands to obtain the DSL Stats.

| All the Earthlink supplied ZyXELs use the two inner pins (aka Line 1). Most of the Modems only have two pins installed in the DSL Port similar to the last image below.

Perhaps I missed it, but I didn't see any indication as to what the P-660R-D1 LED's are doing when the modem tries to connect. This might help to determine what is/isn't happening. |

I am waiting for the OP to update that info along with the DSL Stats. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |
