| HD Cable box -- Sort by favorites?
Hey guys, a few days ago I signed up with Brighthouse Interactive TV & I had the option "sort by favorites". Ever since yesterday, that option had gone away and I cannot find it anywhere. That morning the box was always off when usually its always on. Did brighthouse update my box and get the option off? Thanks |

| reply to fabianvs No, you're not losing your minds. The option for "sort by favorites" missing is not related to your cable box. About a week ago, I woke up about 2am only to see my cable box (non-HD) slooooowly going through each of my channel numbers on the display, with a strange character after each number. The next day, I went to the Channel Guide, and my Favorites were NOT listed first on the list, and I had always selected "sort by favorites" in the past. So, I go to every menu available (took 1/2 hr.) trying to find it. I KNOW it was in the Settings before, but now it was missing. Then I go to the Brighthouse tutorials to make sure I didn't lose my marbles on where it was located. The tutorial confirmed I was right. I THEN decide to call Brighthouse to find out what was up. They say they never heard of this type of complaint before and send a tech to the house 2 days later. (Get ready for this one, now...) The tech, who seemed very knowledgable otherwise, furrows his brow stating "what does sort by favorites mean? I never heard of it...) I then have to show the BH tech their own TUTORIAL, where the screenshot shows the words "sort by favorites" in the Settings menu. Now he's puzzled and says wow, that's a good feature, I didn't know it existed...... He then changes out the box to an HD one, which was good, because that settings menu has the option of clicking "closed captions," which I was told by BH is ONLY available on HD boxes (discrimination to the deaf, only providing that feature to HIGHER PAYING CUSTOMERS with HD TVs???). Anyway, the words "sort by favorites" is STILL NOT visible on the Settings menu, even with the new HD box. Therefore, I KNOW IT GOT EXTERMINATED because of what BH on the phone says was a "major upgrade gone bad" that night at 2am when I saw the cable box going haywire. They admitted it had gone bad and that they were "working on it" and then thanked me for my "input" to let me know that my service was also SCREWED up by the upgrade. Funny thing is, the NEXT day is when Central FL BH had the major problem of ALL cable being out for at least an hour for everyone, longer for some others, and no ability to call Customer Care on the phone because everyone in Central FL called about the outage and you couldn't even get the phone to pick up and get the recording. SO, IT'S NOT YOUR IMAGINATION AND NOT YOUR CABLE BOX. AND HERE IT IS, ABOUT A WEEK LATER, AND STILL NO "SORT BY FAVORITES" HAS COME BACK. I DREAD WAKING UP AND SEEING THE NEXT "UPGRADE" COMING THROUGH THAT WILL SCREW THE SOFTWARE. I don't live in a BRIGHT House -- I'm like everyone else that lives in a DIM-HOUSE! |

| which hd cable box do you have? where in the settings are you looking?
I haven't tried this on every type of box...which should all have the safe software version anyway...press settings...press the right arrow button button twice...and holy bajeesus...it says "Favorite Channels" and what are the only two options there? Set up favorites and Sort by Favorites.... :o |

You might need an SDV Tuning resolver as BHN likes to put HD channels as SDV. The TA is another box that plugs into the Tivo. It allows you to access SDV channels. |

| reply to fabianvs Let me tell you why NO ONE has "sort by favorites" any longer.
Several weeks ago, Brighthouse CFL tried to do a major update to the cable boxes that went horribly bad. During that download, the sort by favorites function on the menu was "fried." It can not be repaired and the ability to "re-do" the update to return it to the menus on the boxes is lost. Brighthouse never intended to rid themselves of the function/feature, but its disappearance was a byproduct of a technological screwup. At first, BH techs were asked to "play dumb" and pretend the feature never existed if questioned about it by the customers (even though the feature is still listed on their website and on their tutorials on your TV). When they became bombarded with complaints, they had to tell customers (a mistruth) that they took it off during that (bad) update. They didn't want to tell customers that it was an irreparable tech error, and to this day they still do not. You will ALSO notice that on some Scientific Atlanta cable boxes that some OTHER menu items were "fried off" and are also missing, namely "received calls," "picture size," etc. There should be 8 functions on Settings, and now some of the boxes only have five. If you question BH about it, they will tell you that you have an older box that's not capable of receiving those functions (even though you had them previously), and that if you want a "newer" box, go pick one up yourself. BH just could not admit to customers that their boxes were fried (ALL of them for the sort feature), and they just hoped most people didn't use the feature or wouldn't call about it (or even notice?). They were even told at one point to tell customers that the "missing" features were not considered "basic features" you pay for and are only available on certain boxes, and your services are based on your BOX, not what you PAY FOR just like your neighbors who ARE getting the features. The alternative to them lying about it would have been notifying every central FL customer, thereby all of them demanding BH make service calls to bring them all new boxes - something they did not want to pay for, obviously. Your only recourse now is to go down to BH yourself and demand the latest/newest box because features from the menu(s) have "mysteriously" disappeared and you want back what you pay for. |
