Here's my home setup. The MacBook does pretty much everything I need, and is pretty "green" (whatever that means... usage isn't the problem, it's how the power is produced). I do music now and then, so when I practice or have a gig, it comes off the stand and runs my live rig. For recording, my bandmate has the high-end Apple Mac Pro / Apogee gear, so I go there.

I like this setup. I have an iMac & a MacBook myself, and they're really great computers. Though never thought of using my MacBook like that, the screen is too small for prolonged usage for me. No external monitor for you?

I don't really need an external monitor, with the stand making the laptop more ergonomically-correct. As for screen real estate, the MacBook screen is small, but I had a 12" PowerBook before this, so I'm used to it. That's what Expose is for.

Out of curiosity, no issues with having the laptop so close to the monitor (speaker)?

Blame it on the C2H5OH

It hasn't been a problem with these speakers. They use neodymium magnets, which are less voluminous than traditional magnets. I typically don't bring the speakers and rack onstage--just the laptop and a stand--so the exposure is minimal.
