| said by jchambers28 :why is satellite internet so expensive? Biggest factor is the satellite itself. Cost can be $100 million or more, and they last 15 years or less.
Newer satellites have more bandwidth, but also cost a lot more.
Most things electronic reduce in cost over the years, but satellites tend to increase.
Lots of risk, as well. Complete loss at launch happens sometimes, and satellites get "injured" fairly commonly in orbit. -- Motosat self-pointing dishes: 1.2-meter XF-3 on 105W or 121W, .74 meter G74 on 83W, SL-5 HD DirecTV|idirect 3100|Hughes HN7000S|Sprint Air Card|1990 Blue Bird Wanderlodge Bus "Blue Thunder"|Author of PC-OPI and DSSatTool |
