I live in Lumberton, New Jersey, and I'm currently subscribed to the FIOS 20/20 plan (double freedom plan, Internet and phone). My contract runs out at the end of the month, which is now less than a week away. They no longer offer the 20/20 plan, and I'm trying to figure out which way to go.
I am a heavy P2P user, and upstream bandwidth is extremely important to me. As I see it, I have two choices.
The first, is to do absolutely nothing. From what I have read here, if I do nothing, my service will not change when the contract runs out, but I will lose the bundle discount. I believe that amounts to about a $25 a month raise, which is not great but I can tolerate it. Choosing the 25/15 plan would add about $10 to my current cost anyway, so I think doing nothing is only $15 more than that.
My other option would be to subscribe to the 25/15 plan. That gives me an extra 5 Mb down, which means absolutely nothing to me. It officially takes away 5 Mb on the upstream, which would be 25% speed reduction, which is something I really don't like. However, I see a lot of comments about this "fluff", where apparently you get considerably more then you are paid for upstream. It seems I've also read the exact amount you get may vary according to location? If this is the case, does anybody have an idea what I would get here in Lumberton? Would I truly get 25/15, 25/20, 25/25, or something else? Anybody near here willing to share their experience?
Also, a question for some of you folks who have been experiencing 25 Mb upstream on the 25/15 plan. I seen the screenshots from the speed test sites you folks have posted, but I'm wondering how that matches up with reality. In other words, has anybody who's plan tested out at 25/25 actually run an upload for at least several hundred megabytes and seen that speed in a real world test?
I appreciate any help you folks could give me, I want to keep the maximum upstream speed possible. Yes, I know I could sign up for the 50/20, but considering I don't really care about the downstream, that plan is a very expensive way for me to get what I want.

| 25/15 is provisioned as 25/25, confirmed from multiple Verizon sources, its 25/25 ... no one knows if this is a perminate thing, but since it came out as a tier, both 15/5 and 25/15 are really 25/25 circuit.
Very few locations or even computers without tweaks can utilize the upload bandwidth, this combined with the speed test sites that don't have symmetric data sets all combine to the variations reported.
P2P also has its own issues, they seed and distribute to not overload a single peer, if there are to many seeders, one will not upload to the maximum possible, again, its not the limit of the provisioned circuit.
I have 25/15 and for giggles, have joined popular torrents and pushed for over 4 hours 2.5Mb/sec, I also speed test to a local server and get 26mb down 24mb up, but only on my XP pc's, win7 has issues on uploads.
I'm trying to be detailed in this post to show some of the reasons for the variations reported, but in all cases, I feel its NOT fios, its one of the zillions other possible things that limit our service which to be frank is nothing short of what data centers have, not most home users
For you, 25/15 is 25/25 today, if you want some guaranty it will always be this, I don't thing anything can meet that, even 20/20 as Verizon can at anytime take that away if your not in contract
One thing, I'm on Ethernet with a DIR955 for the primary router, not the Actiontech is is reported to have some serious issues with P2P and poor wireless, I do have a pair of Westels for the TV and a MOCA bridge for extended wifi and network to the TV and they work great, better "G" performance than the DIR955 | |

Is the 35/20 plan available at your location? This screen shot is typical of what I get serving my web server on the west coast. A real world experience with 35/20 here.
If 35/20 is available there it might be cost effective and satisfy your needs. | |

In areas where TV service is provisioned out of same CO they usually pad the data for additional bandwidth to be used by VOD and IMG offband on the video circuit.
But don't expect to get higher speeds than what you're provisioned for. If you pay for 20/20, and are getting speeds to that spec, you can't complain. | |

Well, my new contract kicked in Monday. I can now add my experience to the mix, it is definitely 25/25 here.
Actually, according to the bandwidth graph in my router, typically I will see somewhere between 26 and 27, but the ping time start going up and my connection feels rather sluggish even for simple web browsing if it's pushed that hard. It's quite comfortable at 25 Mb upstream. This is much like the old 20/20 that I had, it could actually get up around 22, but was much more pleasant at 20.
Now I just hope that the over provisioning will last until they offer a faster speed tier, which I imagine they must be working on. I don't see any other reason they would give you so much more speed than you are paying for, except to test out the network without actually committing themselves.

The 15 up could be a host of things, out of the box PC's, Vista & Win7 all need tweaks to work above 15mbs, also wired vs wireless
