| [AT&T] reception issues on nokia 6555
I've been having intermittent reception issues on my nokia 6555. Sometimes the phone will get no reception in an area which should have reception, and other times it will claim that the phone has no smart chip in it. Often times restarting the phone will fix the issue.
My phone is still under contract, so I'd have to pay full price for a new phone. I've had it for about a year, so I think my warranty should be over, right? I'm very happy with this phone when it works. What are my options? -- My pbase gallery |

| This is more likely an issue of the phone going between 3G and 2G networks, or possibly related to the 850 3G overlay in the northern suburbs. YMMV. I've found quirky reception issues sometimes in Evanston (which is where I work and used to live, btw). Although I didn't get a chance to use it in Evanston, I borrowed my dad's 6555 when he got it and didn't have nearly the same experience as I did w/ previous Nokia 2G only handsets. It wasn't holding onto calls w/ one bar like my older 3595 or even my GAIT handset did ;(.
What you can do to help determine the problem is pop your SIM card into another (either an unlocked or ATT branded) handset) to see what performance you get on the same network. Having an older 2G only phone to test would really help too. If you are outside of one year, then yes, you won't be eligible for warranty service unfortunately. If the phone actually dies before you are eligible for an upgrade, you could grab a cheap gophone from Wally World or Sam's Club to get you by.

| reply to reub2000 It sometimes seems to be that perspiration causes problems. Many times I'll be cycling along the lakefront, and I'll stop and pull the phone out of my pocket to check my e-mail. The phone shows no bars, and will get just fine reception after I restart it. -- My pbase gallery |

I did one time go cycling using nokia sports tracker and it rebooted 27 times.... -- PRescott7-2097 |
