| Sad with Suddenlink in Amarillo
I use to be with cox, then suddenlink took over and it wasn't pretty. My speed dropped from 5ish to 2+ish, so I went with DSL. Steady 5+ from day one. So I am hating dish and decide to go with cable and now 8mb/s is offered as an attractive bundle. So I jumped on it. Well, my ping playing 1942 jumped from 60ish to a upper 80's. So I went down the next day and got the 10mb/s...didn't change a thing. Ping on 1942 is upper 80s to 115 and my DL speed starts out at 10 in the morning and starts declining around 11 am and by 11 at night, I am at 2 mb/s.
Their tech help has been horrible. I have been lied to over the phone about setting up appointments. I have been lied to about a supervisor calling me. A tech told me he would meet me in the evening to run tests and never showed up. I have lost 4 hours of work waiting for no shows.
Today the tech spent quite a bit a time, recognized it was a problem with them, but had no suggestions other than to tell his boss, because everything from the keyboard to the pole is clean.
I doubt they are going to go to much trouble to spend a lot of time and effort on my problem.
To say the least, this is very disappointing. Maybe AT&T will offer me a good deal to come back.
Any suggestions would be appreciated... |

@nc.us | Hi ping rates are common with cable internet. However your speed issues are definitely not normal. |

1 edit | Try sending a message to joshn. Let him know everything you mentioned in the post here. Tell him that a tech has already verified that the issue is on the main line and that you want a maintenance technician to follow up with you so that you know your issue is being fixed. It seems like he has been able to help a lot of people on here. |

3 edits | reply to jkantor1312 I am having the same problems and I live in Amarillo. The speeds are very inconsistent. I'm lucky to even reach the 8mb I pay for. This all started about a week and a half ago. I had a tech come out and boost the signal on my line and install a new modem about 3 months ago. She said that everything looked fine so I'm not sure where the problem is.
Tests to the Dallas speakeasy server at this moment are showing 1199kbps down, 209kbps up.
Edit: Well wife was downloading something on first test. I shut down her computer for the time being. I ran another speed test to the Dallas speakeasy server and results came back were worse then the first speed test. I am now running another line quality test.
Quality test came back and pings are better, highest times near 100ms. Still some packet loss happening not only at my end but at my gateway and the first hop beyond my gateway which is a suddenlink router. Here are the results with my IP hidden.

| They have said that they will "fix" my problem and I am waiting on a phone call to tell me it is fixed. I get 8mb/s in the morning and then it degrades as the evening wears on to about 3mb/s give or take a meg around 11...which is pretty typical. I feel comfortable is saying the speeds are greatly inconsistent.
They have concurred that it is not my problem, but a system problem...but I live in Canyon. Mr Goforth, at the SL office in Amarillo stated that there was an identifiable problem, that wasn't expensive to fix, that would be addressed. Of course that seemed to get moved out from last week to this week. As of last night, I was seeing 4-5mb/s.
JoshN was on top of my problem and instrumental in directing the Amarillo folks to the source. You might contact him via IM.
You might also stop in off 45th and express your concerns to Mr. Goforth. He has been the most consistent, aside from Josh, in letting me know what was going on and admitting there was a problem. Everyone else in the company pretty much said it that my signal looked good. I am pretty much resigned to the problem being bigger than one customer and since no one else has complained that is on the same router as I, then most likely business is good.
You should hammer the Speakeasy server in Dallas. It should be your best time server, ping, up and down. I would think the server in Shreveport should give decent readings, as it is close to Tyler, at least ping wise.
I have had nights of 1 meg down. Mornings...nothing but 8. |

| reply to jkantor1312 Cable by itself doesn't have lousy pings. But an overloaded system with circuitous routing does, and it appears that in your case SuddenLink has both.
Then again, it looks like you have real people to talk to who will help with this, which is a good thing... |

| reply to jkantor1312 I have Suddenlink here in North Carolina and I must say that they are the worst ISP I have ever had. Daily outages and slow speeds around 7ish when i had comcast it was way above that and we rarely had an outage. I though AOL used to be bad but it seems Suddenlink wants to replace them as the worst ever! |

| It didn't start out as a good thing. But, I will give SL their due, there are a couple of guys that have stepped up and are addressing the problem. I ran out of patience when I was told there wasn't a problem over and over again. But I am very satisfied with the attention the "problem" has gotten. I was bashing initially every aspect of their customer service...but I couldn't ask SL to do any more than they are doing now. |
