Okay, I was looking to upgrade to 10MB, I go to embarq.com it's available then I checked to see what centrytel would have, typed in my number 15mb is available for 2 bucks more?? Why?
I'm assuming maybe signs of merger info. |

| reply to Tarheels Fan Hey Tarheel, do you know if Greenville will be gettin this also cause I sure could use and would love to have higher download speeds aswell as uploads speeds so when playing my xbox 360, I can host games on there and not worry about people lagging out of my room. Let me know. Thanks!!

| reply to davidpaj At this time the only 2 types of DSLAMS that would support it are the Adtran TA5000 and Calix E5 or C7. So that does limit where it would be rolled out. Also, your max loop length for the 25MB service would be 8K, again it limits who gets it.
Then at the house you will use a Cisco DDR 2200 Bonded ADSL2+ Gateway which has wireless built in. Also it will be Full Install only.
Remember, this service is in testing and is being rolled out slowly. There is a lot behind the scenes work to get one of these working.
Don't get your hopes up and also don't let your hopes get dashed. This is a start. |

Don't get your hopes up and also don't let your hopes get dashed. This is a start. Interesting; would you be able to tell, from a picture, what kind of DSLAM a RT had?
In any event, I don' think my DSLAM would be a compatible one, but if it the bonded 25/2 megabit service really can go out to 8K feet, then I'd be ok, as my line is supposedly around 7.6K feet, if I recall. All that said, I'm heeding your advice and not getting my hope up--besides, I have a feeling it'd be quite pricey, anyway. |

| reply to El Loco I said it would be offered in residential in mid-october. I don't know the release markets though. I assume it will spread quickly if things go as planned.
If you are on a remote and not service out of a CO then chances are you will not be eligible for bonded ADSL2. This information is only relevant to those on DSLR who are a bit familiar with their area's infrastructure. Calling a CSR and asking will be pointless as they most likely won't know. They will only be able to see your new MEDR if bonded adsl is available to you. |

GIven the fact my RT has the smallest DSLAM I've ever seen in my entire life, it looks like bonded ADSL2+ is out...bummer. Ahh well.
I wonder though; how will this affect the non-bonded packages? Do they intend to stop at 10 meg down and 896k up for the unbonded packages or do they intend to test out higher speeds, such as 15 meg down? |

| Being that 15meg is hard to obtain unless you are right ontop of your remote, then there aren't many more options. Another problem with the remote, is even if you could push 15/20/25 meg for the last mile, you will need your backhaul/transport to be able to handle it. You can see where that could easily tap a remote if there is only a DS3 or even OC3. |

You can see where that could easily tap a remote if there is only a DS3 or even OC3. true, true---Embarq could though, eventually convert the 10 meg package into a "whatever you can get" package; ie--if you could pull 10 meg, you'll get that, but if you could pull, say, 13, 15, 20, or 24 meg, then you'd get that.
Ah well, I guess I'll just have to wait until all the DSLAMs around the country get VDSL2 cards---hmmm, that'll be about, 5-10 years :P
Again, thanks for the information. |
