You can use Boost, Cricket, Metro PCS, USCC, etc. if you don't like the big 4.
I do feel that this is a little bit like the medical insurance industry though. Its an expensive industry to get into, however, it is also quite profitable, and almost all of the 'big' carriers charge similar.
I have mentioned this before (and it will come true for Cable/DSL, etc).. in the end, someone has to pay for all the 3G deployments.
