 [DSL] speedtouch dsl modem

Can someone explain to me why on my speedtouch 546 modem I cannot connect to my ISP via the modem, using my username and password, its using PPPoA. However when I setup a VPN internet connection on my Win XP pc and connect that way it goes though without a problem?
