 DI-524 security set-up

I’ve never gotten around to setting up my wireless router with a password, in part because I’m totally clueless about networking.

I found some instructions at

but they must be for another model of DI-524 because when I get to the Home>Wireless Settings page, it doesn’t have any buttons for Cypher Type or PSK/EAP (as mentioned in steps 13 and 14 of the instructions); but it does require me to fill in the field for RADIUS Server 1 IP.

So what do I put there; and might I encounter any other, similar surprises on subsequent pages of the set-up process?

Among other Macs, my wife’s very old MacBook will connect through the router, so settings will have to accomodate older hardware—an issue that’s mentioned in the discussion on this forum that seems to come closest to addressing my problem, namely

»ABC's of setting up WAP2 security

Thanks for any help you can give.

Richard

Hmmm...

Have you tried WPA-PSK versus WPA on the Wireless Settings page? Selecting that gets me to a place I can insert a long random ASCII key. I am looking at this DI-524 emulator on the D-Link site for what that is worth.

There is also the BBR D-Link forum for help...

If WPA2 is not available as a choice on the router its possible a firmware upgrade may add that functionality. Of course all of your clients need to support WPA2 also. At a minimum use WPA-PSK. WEP is easily hacked.

Save off the key and settings on a flash drive using Windows Connect Now. You can use that if you need to allow guest devices or if you need to redo your PCs for whatever reason.
