 [HD] SyFy HD Audio cutouts

Is anybody else having intermittent audio issues with SyFy HD??
Watching Warehouse 13 and the choppy audio is fairly frequent. Seems to correspond with audio peaks.
Wondering if it is a network problem, or possibly something with my STB...

Thoughts???

I'm experiencing audio problems on a subset of HD channels, picture is fine, but audio is absent or cuts in and out. Happens only on a CC set, not on my HD DVR.

I suspect, but cannot prove, that the DD audio encoding is slightly out of spec on some channels.

Right at the moment (6:55PM), SyFy is cutting in and out for me, but not as badly as FX, TLC, AE, USA, HG and NG (all HD).

jasg: I'll bet those channels are on similar frequencies, and perhaps the audio is overdriven from the head end. Can you get into diagnostics & see levels or S/N ratios?

So far we haven't had any such problems, so that eliminates Syfy and Comcast's HITS as sources of your issues.

That does sound like it is more a matter of something wrong with your audio receiver (assuming you're using one; the audio system in your display if not). Have you tried both some other audio device, and some other audio connection to your audio receiver?

Groups of channels are carried together on the cable system. They will not be sequential on your channel line up. If there is an issue with that specific carrier, it will seem like random channels are having problems.

There are a lot of things that could cause those issues, a bad box, bad/substandard cable/splitters/connectors or an issue with the signal from Comcast.

Check and make sure your cable is RG6 and you have compliant splitters and you aren't running the cable through a surge protector first...if that isn't your problem, you really need a tech to come out and take a look. Not much else you can do w/o a signal analyzer.

Oh and somehow I can't help myself with Warehouse 13, I keep thinking it's kind of silly, but I enjoy it anyhow. It's a good show.

I've seen the audio cutouts on my Comcast DVR sometimes. Hitting pause, waiting a few seconds, then play to increase the buffer time seems to fix it.

A Comcast senior tech (3rd truck roll) just spent two hours on this and no joy. He connected to a known good feed (that works with my DVR) and tried a different SCard - still have audio problems on some but not all HD channels. He did not check SS or SNR (nor can I).

Final analysis is that the set is a fault and that it simply cannot process audio on certain QAM channels.

Suggestion was to get a STB, but since this is a bedrooms set that lives in a cabinet, I have to get permission from my wife to evict a shelf full of her clothing to make room for a STB (we went with CableCard for just that reason).

If a STB is the only solution, we will consider FIOS and Satellite as well.

New television probably will fix the problem too.

True, but I can't seem to find a 26 inch CableCard set these days.

Cable has been replaced recently, all new RG6 with the Good connectors from Comcast...I actually have three drops to the house...This one is direct to the home theater area, into a Comcast supplied three way splitter. Signal levels have been good when checked before...I can check again.....My MTA signals are great but, that is off of another drop.
Last night it did seem to only be occurring on SyFy, other HD channels were OK.
Thanks for the reply!

Me too!! Great to unplug to....I also have become hooked on Eureka, another one from SyFy.
I wonder if being a geek has something to do with it?
