| what carriers are the numbers to be ported from? do you want traditional PRI, or is SIP-based OK? are you already using a PRI on your phone system now? how many DID numbers to port, and how many new? a single E911 address for all your DID numbers, right? |

I'm new to this, we're a small ISP wanting to offer VoIP service to business and residential.
The numbers are to be ported from AT&T and perhaps some from centurytel. I was wanting traditional PRI.
We don't have a phone system. We'll be placing trixboxes and ATAs at the customers.
Thanks, Roger |

If you're planning on selling phone service, are you planning to register with FCC and state regulatory commission as a common carrier, prepare all your quarterly regulatory reports, and pay telecom taxes and federal and state USF? I'm not your daddy, but if you're not going to do that, you'll get shut down and leave a big uncollectable bill behind you, so I would pass on the opportunity... |

1 edit | Seems like as far as the FCC goes I need to file the following:
FCC Form 499-A Registration. Quarterly FCC Forms 499-Q. Annual FCC Form 499-A
And of course I need to file form 477 since I'm an ISP already.
If there's anything I'm missing, I'd appreciate a heads up!
Thanks, Roger |

Would they be cooperative in providing me a way to update my callerid database information and E-911 location information per DID. |

Since you're an ISP, and you don't have a phone system, you really ought to be doing this on SIP, especially at startup. You'll avoid all the loop, port and EUCL charges ... and just pay for your minutes and numbers and E911 registrations. Otherwise, you're front loading your expenses on a term contract at retail rates before you have customer number one. You can get SIP arrangements with minimal commitments now, see how the marketing goes, see what your traffic patterns look like, and if the project takes off, then get the PRI for "free" local calling later. |
