1 edit | reply to Siryak Re: Weird Graphic Issue with Battlefield 2
Ok the problem went away again for quite a while. Now it has came back, but with a new problem. As you can see in the screenshot there are now red lines/dots at the top bar and the start bar. It is not a monitor/cable issue because this showed up in a screenshot.
Edit: Ok I reverted back to the newer 190.62 driver and the red dots immediately went away. The graphics problem on the other hand got significantly worse. -- [IMG]»img218.imageshack.us/img218/2636···3dg6.gif Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit / Q6600 / 9800GT / 4GB RAM |

| reply to Siryak I wouldn't be surprised if it's time for a new card. I think Nvidia has some bad quality control problems. My 7900gt started crapping out soon after I bought it. It was doing similar stuff to what you're seeing. Underclocking it SORT of helped. It eventually got so bad that it would just lock up in windows. XP, too. So it wasn't being pummeled by aero.
I thought it was a heating issue. I cleaned it up good, reseated the heatsink and put arctic silver on it. Then I opened the case up and left a 12" desk fan blowing on it 24/7. |

2 edits | reply to Siryak Make sure your clock settings are at default. I believe they would be
- 600 MHz for Core Clock Setting - 900MHz for Memory Clock Setting - 1500MHz for Shader Clock Setting
for your card. But double check , or somebody else can verify those are the default clock settings.
You can use rivatuner to check those settings or depending on the brand you have you can also use other programs like EVGA precision.
Also I would use speedfan program to A:monitor temps and log them. B: set the fan control to manual and crank it to 100% to see if that helps also.
Have you ever messed with the clock settings because your symptoms sound like that could be the culprit and just not remember you've overclocked,IDK...just some suggestions -- Let me tell you what Melba Toast is packin' right here, all right. Ok I finally decided to talk to HP.
Rep : Colby, for the 9800 GT grphics card the power supply required is 450W, but only 350W is installed on your computer. Me : Why is that... Me: I ordered the 9800GT when I customized the PC, so whatever is in there is what HP put Rep : While playing games, it requires high graphics so to produce high graphics it requires high power supply. Me: So why did HP not put a powerful enough power supply to go with the card when they built it? Rep : Colby, you have customised the pc, HP gives you the base configuration and recommended configuration, you might have not selected any one of them. Me : I assumed when I ordered a 9800GT card that a powerful enough power supply would be included with it... Rep : May I know how did you update the drivers for graphics for windows 7? (I have already answered this question at least 3 times!!!!!!!!!)

*Bangs head on desk repeatedly* Wow... that sucks. If you customize a PC on their site, it should update the recommended power supply automatically. This is clearly HP's fault. I would keep calling back over and over till you get them to resolve the issue.
Was their even an option to choose a power supply? I highly doubt it since I don't recall Dell or HP even having that option.
Just keep calling and demanding to talk to a supervisor or manager till you get the correct power supply for your HP for FREE! |

Oh it is getting even better: Me : If my power supply is under powered then why are we still messing with drivers? Rep : You can also upgrade the power supply Me : What I want to know is why HP did not put the proper power supply in my computer in the first place Rep : What is the point of a high powered graphics card if I don't have the power to run it properly? Me : Colby, as I have told you, you have customised the PC, HP has both the base and recommended configuration, may be did not select any one of them. Me : Power supply is not part of the configuration Rep : It is the basix power supply unit which will be shipped with every HP PC. Me : Well why does HP even bother selling a graphics card upgrade if they are not going to equip the PC properly to run it? Me : Its like selling a car with an engine that isnt strong enough to move it Rep : The graphics card which is installed on your computer supports high end games, but the power supply shouls also support the graphics card Rep : For this you need to upgrade the power supply init. Rep : unit Me : HP should have upgraded the power supply when they built it Me : Otherwise the graphics card is useless
Edit: OMG!!!! They are still trying to give me the runaround and say well it could be the drivers!!! Are they fregin kidding me!!! Edit: Oh now I have been sent to phone support...Somebody please save me from this agony!!! I can't take hours of terrible English! Edit: I hate you HP. Edit: I really really hate you HP!!!! Edit: HP Phone Rep: Since your computer is out of warranty I can provide you with a one time support for $49.(Like hell you can!) -- [IMG]»img218.imageshack.us/img218/2636···3dg6.gif Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit / Q6600 / 9800GT / 4GB RAM |

| Oh boy HP has lit a fire under me. Here is how conversation number 2 went.(I trimmed off the first part)
Rep2 : Colby I have searched the specification for you and since the Power supply is not matching and that is the reason why you are facing this issue. Me : I realize this. Me : What I want to know is why HP did not put a powerful enough power supply in to begin with... Rep2 : Since this is a CTO product standard Power supply was shipped with your computer. Me : Yes but what is the point of a graphics card upgrade if you are not going to put in a power supply that can support it? Rep2 : May I know when you first faced this issue did you contact HP? Me : No...I did not use the computer for games at fist therefore this issue was not apparent Rep2 : Okay. Rep2 : You need to upgrade the Power Supply to resolve your issue. Me : HP should have upgraded it when they built it Me : Otherwise the graphics card upgrade is useless Rep2 : Since you are Out of Warranty you need to purchase the power supply. Me : Why should I haft to fix something that was HP's fault in the first place? Rep2 : I understand your concern but you should have contacted HP when you first faced this issue. If you want you can call 1-800-474-6836. Me : I did contact HP when I first faced the issue Me : If I haft to I can send this through the BBB Me : I am not going to let this go Me : I am not going to pay $49 to have someone tell me what you are telling me over the phone either Rep2 : Okay. Rep2 : Since you are Out of Warranty you need to purchase the Power Supply. Me : Not the answer im looking for Rep2 : Since you are Out of Warranty you need to purchase the Power supply. Me : Well that is BS Rep2 : Is there anything else I may help you with? Me : Nope I guess I will just take this up through the Better Business Bureau
I have already followed through with my threat and filed with the BBB. So yah HP is not on my good side right now. -- [IMG]»img218.imageshack.us/img218/2636···3dg6.gif Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit / Q6600 / 9800GT / 4GB RAM |

| reply to Siryak The graphics card is bad. You need a new one. The fact that it's showing issues in the Aero effects is an indication of this. (Aero effects like the transparency utilize the GPU) -- THIS IS SPENCER. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED - I HAVE JOE. RETURNING TO BASE. |

| Other than going out and buying one.I would try and get them to replace the PSU.If i"m not mistaken it(9800GT) needs at least a 450 Power(IMHO i would go 600 of higher). There are Some great PSU units for a good price but i would try and pry one out of them first. -- "It's called the American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it."-George Carlin

Yah that is what I am doing atm. Unfortunately I am being forced to go to the BBB because their reps just won't hear any of it. It is not really the cost of the PSU that I am upset about. It is the principle that they should have put a proper one in the computer when they built it. I would rather the cost be a little higher and them do it right then try and cut corners on me. I won't make this mistake again though. I am going to suck it up and build my next one.(It will probably be a few years down the road though) -- [IMG]»img218.imageshack.us/img218/2636···3dg6.gif Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit / Q6600 / 9800GT / 4GB RAM |

2 edits | reply to Siryak Well I can only speak from my experience but I have a 9800 GTX + and I only use a 400 watt corsair PSU. I've had no issues at all with this(I have 3 HDD's,2 dvd burners,4 case fans and a cpl usb items hooked up,pretty average). I've read also in different places that a 9800 gt will only use 180-210 watts rated consumption. (about 210-270 watts under load) (»www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gef···2-3.html). So considering your other peripherals you have installed too will be a factor.
350 watt on a cheap HP PSU is definitely not enough but I beg to differ you need a 500 watt or more PSU.
Whatever you do, I suggest getting one with more than 400 watts, high amp per rail rating(25a-30a), and 80 plus certified. Do your research because there are alot of crappy PSU's out there.
With all that being said, i believe corsair is making the best PSU's out right now for the quality and money involved. With the research I did.(after my 500 watt aspire one died after 2 years)
