2 edits | Weird Graphic Issue with Battlefield 2
Ok here is my situation. As you can see in the picture below something odd is going on here. If you will look at the Helicopter to the right you can see that they guns on it are making a line that goes on forever. This sometimes happens on other things as well. Sometimes I will be flying along and a crazy looking wall will pop up.(I can fly through it, but I can't see!!!
Any ideas what is causing this? I am running Windows 7 64-bit Pro RTM with a 9800GT, Q6600, & 4GB of RAM with all settings on high. I don't think it is an overheating issue because it does it even whenever I first start playing. I have tried turning on triple buffer and V-Sync to no avail as well.

Then I updated to latest drivers and still the same problem. Installed 1.4 patch and I still have the problem and now I am getting PB errors. *Face Palm* -- [IMG]»img218.imageshack.us/img218/2636···3dg6.gif Wildblue(unfortunately) Pro Pack / Beam 40 / Laredo NOC / Windows Vista Home Premium |

1 edit | Ok I fixed the PB error. Still having graphic errors though! I got a few more pictures that better shows whats going on here. This is not what I would call a "minor" glitch.

If not, well... completely uninstall your video card and do a full clean of any and all drivers. Reinstall and see if the problem persists. |

| reply to Siryak He says he is running windows 7. It could be a graphics driver problem with Windows 7 thats for sure. Have you tried stepping down in graphics driver versions to see if an older version will work? -- My domain - Nightfall.net |

2 edits | Ok turns out turning off the AA only lessened the issue. It is still there. Also I have been playing on the free multiplayer week on Crysis and I am seeing the same thing there...
Edit: Ok maybe this is the problem. I notice that my refresh rate is at an odd number(59Hz). No problem I can just change it to 60...If only it were that easy. Every time I change it to 60Hz it just reverts back to 59Hz no matter if it is in Windows settings or Nvidia control panel. I looked up my monitor HP W2207H and according to the specs it should have a maximum refresh of 60Hz. :/ Any ideas?
Edit2: Ok finally figured out how to force it into 60Hz, but this did not help. Turning down the AA in BF2 significantly helps the problem and makes it occur much less frequently. On Crysis though I was never running AA in the first place and I am still getting these phantom walls and strings just like I was getting in BF2. -- [IMG]»img218.imageshack.us/img218/2636···3dg6.gif Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit / Q6600 / 9800GT / 4GB RAM |

| reply to Siryak Video artifacts can be caused both by software and hardware problems. If you're seeing this problem in two or more programs, your video card maybe over-heating. I know you mention that you don't think that may be the issue, but do you have a monitoring tool with your video driver that can confirm this?
Aside from an over-heating video card, I've seen artifacts occur when PSU start failing or have too many devices drawing power, just enough to affect your video card. -- Games - GameTech - S.F.Bay - 新 |

| reply to Siryak Overheating video card, or a power draw issue from the psu as shinjuru said. Try a new psu and see what happens maybe? Clean your video card fan if you have one. Maybe add some artic silver to the gpu core once it's cleaned. |

| I wouldn't just go throwing in new hardware into a computer because it might be the problem.
How long have you been using Windows 7? Did you have the same issues on your previous OS? Or when you switched to Windows 7, was the problem there from the beginning, or did it take a while to begin happening? -- It takes two to lie, Marge. One to lie, and one to listen. |

Did you have the same issues on your previous OS? Or when you switched to Windows 7, was the problem there from the beginning, or did it take a while to begin happening? I do not recall having this problem in Vista. It is worth mentioning that this is not a self built PC. It is built by HP. I am not sure how good they are about getting a properly spec'd PSU. I am guessing they probably just slapped in a 9800GT, so the cooling would be in Nvidia's hands. Also as I stated it is highly unlikely that it is an overheating issue because it happens when the game first starts and BF2 should not be making a 1 year old 9800GT overheat.(I could be wrong though just my opinion)
Would it be worthwhile to try using Windows 7's new XP emulation mode or would it still be using Windows 7 drivers in that?
Another thing to note is in BF2 turning off AA significantly reduced the problem.(Not sure if this points to a software issue or if it still means it could be a failing component) |

| Update: Well I fixed it...I remembered that the problem cropped up right around when I installed Crysis. So I went in and uninstalled Crysis and haven't had an problems since.(Even with full 8x AA) Not really sure why it would cause this, but it was somehow. -- [IMG]»img218.imageshack.us/img218/2636···3dg6.gif Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit / Q6600 / 9800GT / 4GB RAM |

4 edits | Does anyone know of a good graphics monitor program where I can check to see if this is the case? Also if it is the case can I turn the fan speed up?
Edit: Looks like you are right about the heat issue. It is sitting at 74C and I am not even playing a game yet. I am not seeing a place in Speedfan to turn the fan speed up though. I am going to try RivaTuner and see if that has something.
Edit: Ok I got RivaTuner to put the fan speed to 100% and the temperature is rapidly coming down. Any ideas for a more permanent solution than running the fan 100% when in use? What I don't understand is why my software let it get to that temperature in the first place.(It was trying to cool it because it never turned up the fan) I can only imagine the temperature of this thing whenever I was actually using it whenever it was 74C at the desktop. I took the case off and the GPU was literally almost too hot to hold your finger on it. It looks pretty clean though and it is only a year old.
Edit: Ok I just tried playing a 58C and it still had the same problem. Also I noticed in the tray that it says something about the display driver failing and recovering. So maybe it is a display driver? Is 74C too hot for an idle temperature?
Edit: Ok the GPU gets up to about 83C under load with factory fan settings. -- [IMG]»img218.imageshack.us/img218/2636···3dg6.gif Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit / Q6600 / 9800GT / 4GB RAM |
