I bought this believing it was a DSL Modem and planned to use it to replace an old Westell B-90 which keeps needing to be rebooted. Is it possible to have the 5660 replace the B-90 and use my Belkin N+ Router? Thanks........ banjo |

| You do have to set the VPI/VCI to work with your ISP if the default values do not work. The DSL LED does show sync with a Solid Green LED, correct? -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

2 edits | That may be an Ethernet port issue. The Ethernet port on the 5660 is 10 Mbps and Half Duplex (10BASE-T). See if the WAN port on the Belkin N+ can have its speed and rate changed.
Belkin N+ Wireless Router Reviewed »www.smallnetbuilder.com/content/···0634/96/ quote: Like the "N", the N+ is a two-antenna router based on Ralink silicon (more shortly). But where the "N" has 10/100 WAN and LAN ports, the N+'s WAN and four switched LAN ports are gigabit. The N+ also has a USB port that will make a USB flash or hard drive available as a networked share.

How did you try it stand alone? If the 5660 was still in Bridge Mode, it would not work as DHCP is off in Bridge Mode and your PC would get a APIPA IP address in the 169.254.0.1 to 169.254.255.254 range when connected to it stand alone. To use it stand alone would require placing it back into Router Mode.

Most ISPs use PPPoE or PPPoA which requires either a reset to Router Mode then set the 5660 up using Simple Setup or you can set the connected PC LAN Adapter to a Static IP in the range the 5660 LAN uses (10.0.0.2 and up/subnet 255.255.0.0) in order to regain access to the Web Interface since DHCP is off when the 5660 is in Bridge Mode. Once access is regained with a Static IP you would set the Mode to Router and set the PC LAN Adapter back to DHCP by removing the Static IP info previously added. There is a guide below with full instructions for setting the 5660 up as a Router.
»Efficient Networks Forum FAQ »How do I setup my 5660 for PPPoA or PPPoE?
You can add a 10/100 or 10/100/1000 Multi-port Switch to the LAN Ethernet Port to support up to 253 PCs with the 5660. That way you can have super fast LAN to LAN transfers and your DSL transfer speeds out to the Internet and back in are not affected by the 10 Mbps LAN port on the 5660 since the 5660 only supports up to 8 Mbps ADSL (G.DMT or ANSI T1.413).

| I returned the unit back to router mode and setup as follows VPI:0 VCI:35
Username: myusername@myfairpoint.net Password:mypassword
I used the right username and password in the configuration.
When I tried to use it and connect to 10.0.0.1 it reported that IP was in use and not reachable and when I checked the 5660 it reported the IP as 169.254.248.82, something is not right here with the unit as it changes states constantly. |

1 edit | The 5660 is showing a WAN IP of 169.254.x.x?
The PC is reporting that 10.0.0.1 is already in use? That IP is reserved for the Modem.
What IP did you use for your Static IP in the PC and did you remove it after regaining access to the 5660? The PC should be set back to Automatically obtain IP Address so the 5660 DHCP server can give it an IP.
I'd make sure it has the latest Firmware installed. Either 2.3.0(2) or 2.3.0(6) or 2.3.0(7).
I'd suggest resetting the unit back to factory defaults and setting it up from scratch after that. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

1 edit | What Firmware version is installed?
Did you reset the 5660 to Factory Defaults?
What are the DSL Stats as seen by the 5660?
You should be directly connected to the 5660 with a single PC.
