Windows 7 and Belkin Nostromo n52 problems

I'm using the RTM version of Windows 7 (MSDN subscription) with the Belkin Nostromo n52 (not the n52te). I works ok, however, I can never get it to automatically switch profiles. Also, when my machine comes out of sleep mode, it defaults to what I'm guessing is the factory profile, and I can't get out of it - clicking the loadout manager in the task bar does nothing until I reboot. Anyone else using this setup or have any ideas on how to fix the problem? I'm using the latest (and probably last) set of drivers from Belkin.

I have a couple of Nostromo n52 and n50 units. I actually gave up on using them when I made the change to Vista when it first came out. The n50 actually worked OK in early Vista betas but lost functionality as the OS progressed to RC status.

Anyway, my only suggestion would be to see if the Nostromo n52te software would work for the n52. I’m not at all sure that the n52te software will work for the n52 but as the n52te is the most recent product it stands the chance of being the most up to date or likely to be the first to be updated.

I have a Nostromo, but never had issues with Vista.

As far as Win7, Ill bet all you're going to get from them is "Not a supported OS" because all they list is:

OS compatibility: Windows XP 32-bit, Windows Vista 32-bit, Windows XP 64-bit, Windows Vista 64-bit

Maybe sometime down the road they will make proper drivers for Win7.

You'll have to wait until Windows 7 is "officially" released to the consumers.

RTM is an "Official" release. It's the same as retail.

Have you tried Vista SP 2 compatibility support? I've had to do the Compatibility when I installed some drivers on my RTM as well.

Hence my use of quotes. Some companies like Belkin, Logitech aren't releasing drivers until Windows 7 is in retail even though many people are already using it. I'm very well aware that RTM = Retail (although technically it's meant to be used for development or testing purposes, not for regular use according to their EULA) but to these companies they are waiting for next month.

I wouldn’t expect a fast reaction from Belkin even after the official release of “Windows 7” especially not for their gaming products. Updated drivers may take a while, however, this isn’t necessarily a driver related problem. The OP did not make mention of the device itself malfunctioning (freezing up, disconnecting, keys sticking and so on) but rather the accompanying software that provides advanced functionality.

Now while I would not expect a fast reaction with respect to updated drivers I would also not expect a fast response with respect to an updated Nostromo Profile Editor, Loadout Manager and so on (slower in fact). I think its been almost ~2 years since the current Windows version has been updated for the n52.

The Belkin n52te “Razer” software on the other hand was probably updated sometime within the last 12 months which is quasi fast for Belkin.

Which brings me back to my original suggestion. I vaguely remember downloading the n52te software when it first came out and trying it in Vista with my n52. It worked as I recall but I was at the point where I just didn’t really care to use the n52 anymore and I wasn’t going to shell out for the then new n52te. Poor support is what drove me to shelve the product but my guess is that the n52te will receive preferential treatment (if a new product doesn’t come out to replace it) and that you’d be lucky if Belkin even spits in the direction of the n52.

If the OP can get hold of the Nostromo n52te “Razer” software it “might” work better in Windows 7 then the native n52 software and again this doesn’t sound like a driver problem IMO.

I have the same issue described exactly with my n52. I have the office released version now and it does it on 2 machines with different controllers

I have the same problem. You can unplug the n52 and plug it back in to fix the problem, much easier than a reboot but still very annoying.

Yes, it works. The only problems that I have with it is that it isn't recognized when coming out of sleep mode and the automatic profile function doesn't seem to work (manually selecting a profile works fine). Be careful with the drivers though, I think I'm using 3.02d, not the 3.24 drivers. If you install one after the other, Windows 7 puts stuff in different locations and seems to hose everything up.
