| [WotLK] Just Hit LVL 80, Now What?
So I just hit LVL 80 this weekend on my DK. It is my first lvl 80. It was a little anti-calmatic however. I hit 80 and went yea, then I started looking around for upgrades etc and realized my work hasn't even got close to finishing. So I tried to see where I could get upgrades from. I didn't have uninterpretable time to dedicate to running an instance (by the way I haven't done one in Northrend yet). I didn't want to have to go /afk on people. It was suggested to me in another thread to upgrade my weapon first.
I saw three choice,
1. Ebon Blade-requiring revered with the Ebon Blade
2. The sword from the Argent Tourney and
3. Titans Steel Destroyer from a BlackSmith.
I saw someone selling a Titansteel in trade for 500g but I hate to spend money so I hesitated, since I didn't know what was involved in getting the other two options. Plus I'm an Orc DK so I've been using Axe's and would have to lvl up a sword or mace. Anyway I don't have it. I will have to see if I can buy one over the next couple days.
In the mean time I'm asking for advice on what to do for upgrades. These are the things I'm been doing
1. Argent Tournament - I now have the Valiant Challege
2. Ebon Blade Quests for rep
3. Battle Grounds - AV is on holiday so I get more. I currently have like 30,000 Honor Point.
I will try to get into one of the 3 top lvl Dungeons when I can do it without have to go /afk, hopefully tonight after I get the kids in bed. My wife has school. I'm not even asking to get into a Heroic at this point, should I be? My dps is approaching 2k. In AV I'm usually in the top 5 for total damage and dps. Am I doing the right things or should I focus on something else? |

| Skip the titansteel destroyer. Pick up the ebon blade or Argent Tourney one. You'll replace it fast enough with Marrowstrike or Edge of Ruin from H ToC.
Run ToC until your fingers bleed, then run heroics for conquest emblems to pick up some decent gear.

Sterling, VA | Blood dps is more dependent on gear than the other specs (Save dw frost). Unholy wouldn't be bad to try if you have DPS problems. If you don't, stay blood.
Your spec is good, go get some gear! |

the next epic upgrade without running instances comes from the faction vendors for exalted reputation
best check the vendors to see what faction has the desired item. |

After tomorrow's maintenance the Deadly Gladiator gear will be available to buy with honor points.
Crafted items in the AH.
Regular ToC 5-man has better gear than most heroics.
maxdps.com ranks items by slot based on your class & spec. You can even select the instances available to you at your current gear level in order to eliminate it listing items that are out of reach. |

With 2K dps, you will be fine in Any Heroic and Naxx10. If someone tells you 2K dps isnt enough, they're on drugs and you dont want to group with them anyway.
That is the next natural progression path for you.
Regular ToC and Heroic ToC have excellent equipment, I would focus on those until you have everything from Regular ToC. Then do heroics, or pick up a Naxx10 if possible. |

I plan on doing Heroics/raids I just didn't think I was geared enough for them. I'm not in a guild that has alot of people, to pull me through a heroic. In fact I'm only the 3rd lvl 80. One of those just hit lvl 80 a few days before me. The other one has full PVP gear. We have a one other that is lvl 78ish and one at lv 68. We are small, but don't have the guild drama. I could find another guild, but I like the group I have. |

that guild thing sounds good!
2k dps are def. enough for all heroics.

I had been looking there. But I saw most of the upgrades where in Heroics. But if my dps is good enough to get into a heroic then I will try to get into one. I think I will try TOC normal first. The dps numbers come from tests on dummies, what I've seen fighting Elites in world, and from AV fighting the elites there. I haven't done it in and instance setting yet. |

Level 80 heroics are a lot faster and easier than level 70 heroics were. Plus since they started dropping conquest badges you'll find most people running them don't need heroic gear they're just grinding badges which makes the run even faster and easier. Most heroics can be done in 20-30mins. |

Your spec is good, go get some gear! I was doing the diseaseless blood since I came back and I had zero armor pen. DPS is gear dependant. Blood spec is not.

If you do 2k dps you can pug heroics and everyone will think you are uber. I run 3 or 4 heroics with pugs everyday and though I don't consider myself to be that good I usually top the damage meter some where between 2200 and 2800 as a spriest. I would love to have the other dps doing 2k or better. Last night in UP our ret pally dps pulled a wopping 1023 dps for the night. Don't worry about your dps not being good enough. You said you didn't won't to go AFK in an instance well you could probably do as much dps AFK as some people do in pugs.
While the titiansteel maybe upgraded quickly it is a good starting weapon and it's nice to have until you get the upgrade. To get weapon skills up by the cheapest, fastest, low level weapon you can find go to the sunwell island (can remember the name and could spell it if I could) go to the area where you do the bombing runs, get naked and auto attack mobs until you hit 400 with your weapon. |

| My current weapon is the De-Ranged Waraxe from the arena in ZD. So it's not bad. How should I officially test my dps? I don't want to say that my dps is 2k when I was testing it wrong and pug and instance and not get there and then people get mad. Like I said I had done it on test dummies, World Elites, and in AV. Should I do it fully buffd w/trinkets and use DRW, or just default rotations? |

| Make sure Recount is on and go fight an elite in Icecrown--should give you an idea of single-target dps, minus the level difference from a heroic boss.
Honestly, the best idea is just go run heroics. I guarantee you'll top 1500dps, so advertise that. |

| Yeah, i wouldn't bother with crafted gear. Go run heroics until your eyes bleed. Quite literally. Why bother crafting stuff when you could farm heroics for a while and get yourself T8? Once you've got a full stash of epics, get yourself in some raids and get better stuff.
Make sure you do the heroic daily every day. 15 days of that and you can get a piece of Tier 9.

I appreciate eveyone's input. Thank you for the help. I'll let you know how it goes tonight if I can get into a Heroic or TOC.
On a side note, anyone know if its true that there isn't a cool down on a transmute for earthsiege or skyfire diamond. My JC is at 425 and I need them to continue lvling. I don't want to pay the 30g a pop for them which is what they are at right now, but I can farm for the mats while I'm waiting to get into the Heroics 
Of course if I get the right design I could get that back by selling the cut one. I'll have to look into that as well. |
