| [Snow Leopard] NFS Mounts - no more Directory Utility
 Disk Utility | NFS Mounts |
Just as an FYI to those of you who have automounts setup for NFS, you no longer use Directory Utility to do so.
At least, you can't use spotlight to find a Directory Utility app.
Instead, it's buried inside the Disk Utility app. Here's how you get access to the same kind of setup as the "Mounts" button/tab inside Directory Utility from Leopard:
- Once inside Disk Utility, click File then NFS Mounts... - This will pop up a new window similar to the mounts form from Directory Utility in Leopard
It won't accept smb:// or afp:// URIs, though, so how one goes about automounting those is anyone's guess...I don't use either, but perhaps someone can chime in with how to do those once more folks have their hands on Snow Leopard.
Anyway, rather irritated that they moved the NFS stuff from netinfo manager in Tiger to Directory Utility in Leopard to Disk Utility in Snow Leopard. It is certainly not the most intuitive change.
Seems to work fine, though, once you find the damn NFS mounts in Disk Utility.
Oh one random thing I noticed while creating this post - shift-command-3/4 to screen shot now creates file names with the date and time in the file name instead of just "ScreenshotX.png" -- He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have. -Socrates | | meister_sd Premium join:2006-01-29 La Mesa, CA | I'll have to bookmark this thread. I just ordered Snow Leopard and will get Snow Leopard Server soon from my plan with Apple. Many users automount folders here, so I'll have to figure out what changed.... | | UnuntuAMD64

| reply to deblin Just finished with the update to SL. Found the NFS option in DU but ... Can't mount my NFS folders from my Ubuntu 64 bit server. I'm using NFS 3 there. With Leopard there were no issues at all. Still can't find reason why. When I type the source and destination it verify it and says: It's OK. Any help will be appreciated! | | deblin Dark Side of the Moon Premium,MVM join:2001-09-01 Middletown, DE

Hmm, can you post the last say 50-100 lines of dmesg output right after you try to connect to the NFS mount? E.g.:
- attempt to mount NFS share - open Terminal.app and run: sudo dmesg | tail -100 - you will be prompted for your password when you run the sudo command, enter it and then paste those 100 lines here (or pick out anything relevant that looks like NFS).
The only thing I can think of is Snow Leopard perhaps uses TCP instead of UDP by default now (can't confirm, as I'm not on my LAN right now), although highly unlikely. -- He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have. -Socrates | | UbuntuAMD64

Hmm, don't see anything NFS or automount related.
Can you open Disk Utility, go to the "NFS Mounts", then click the edit icon for one of the mounts and expand the "Advanced Mount Parameters" section and screen shot it? For example, mine is attached. -- He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have. -Socrates | | UbuntuAMD64
@com.au | Hi Deblin,
IT WORKS!!!
Parameters -i, -s, -w and -r were the key.
Thanks a lot! | |
