| Speedstream 5262-006 no longer DSL link after line fault fix
Hi there, just wanted some thoughts on this:
I got dry line ADSL a few months ago from att in michigan and had connected a 5262 (060-5262-006 extended reach) that I already had. It was/is configured with 0/35 VPI/VCI and it was working.
I was away for a bit and on return the modem was no longer connecting (DSL light alternate red/green flashing). AT&T support said there was a line fault outside the premises and came out and fixed it.
However now, a modem they had (Westell F90-610025-06 ProLine) does work on the line (reporting G.DMT line mode, Multimode training mode, 0/35, and connecting at 608 rx 384 tx). I had to redo the webflow registration etc to get it working..
But if I put the 5262 back on the line instead, the DSL light gets past the red/green flashing after 10-15 seconds, goes to a slower green only flashing for 10-15 seconds or so, but then returns to red/green, and keeps going through that cycle forever.
Does this sound like the modem or something changed at the central office? |

| 608 Kbps Downstream is very low, is your line real long or does it have high Downstream Attenuation?
The LED behavior means the Modem cannot find the DSL signal. Either the Modem thinks there is a loss of DSL Sync signal or there really is a loss of DSL Sync signal.

Try out at the NID to see if the Modem will sync there using a test jack.

2 edits | OK.. I tried at the NID too and no difference.
The exact DSL LED sequence is: 8 green/red flashes at about 1 Hz 10 green only flashes same rate 3 green only flashes at about 50% slower rate then a very short red blink, and the cycle repeats.
I pulled up the stats on the Westell modem that is connecting, and it shows the following:
Rx Tx 140 Current Rate 608 384 141 Previous Rate - - 142 DSL Max Rate 0 0 143 DSL Min Rate - - 144 Current ATTN DR 63 31 145 Current SNRM 12 18 146 Current LATN - - 147 Current SATN - - 148 Current TP 0 11
15 Min 24 Hour Yesterday 160 Time Elapsed 368 47168 0 161 Chan Received Blks 1089232391 1151799221 0 162 Chan Transmitted Blks 1089232413 1151802191 0 163 Chan Corrected Blks 13 3673 0 164 Chan Uncorrected Blks 0 0 0
The line is apparently about 2 miles from the exchange.
What i'm trying to determine is if I should expect ATT to be able to get this line working [again] with my existing Speedstream modem. |

| With 63 dB Downstream Attenuation you are much farther away than 2 Miles from the CO or Remote and your Westell is only syncing at 608 Kbps due to the great distance that 63 dB Attenuation is reporting.

608 Kbps way below the 3500 Kbps that is the 3 Mbps service. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

Is it possible the 5262 I have is just not able to work at that much attenuation, but the Westell can? |

Both the 5262 Standard and the 5262 "Extended Reach" should still sync at that distance, but it would show the low sync rate like the Westell is doing. It is also possible that the 5262 is just defective in its old age or it may have been damaged when the line had a problem. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

| reply to mizts fwiw, I tested the Speedstream 5262 on another DSL line in the area (same CO but stronger signal), and it synced up just fine.
I notice that there is a lot of latency on the Westell connection too.. about 52ms first hop, whereas about 9ms at the other location. I'm guessing that is due to interleaving. |

| The Westell log should be able to confirm the DSL as either G.DMT Fast or G.DMT Interleaved (or ADSL2 or ADSL2+).
Another reason the 5260/5262 may not sync is if ADSL2 or ADSL2+ is on the line and set to not be back compatible to G.DMT protocol. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

| That would be an interesting possibility. No mention of ADSL2 or ADSL2+ in the readout, just this:
