| ToC 4th boss - Preliminary Strategy for Twin Valkyr
Preliminary Strategy for Twin Valkyr - 4th Boss of ToC TLDR description at the very bottom.
This fight looks like fun. For a list of boss abilities, go to: »wowraid.com/?topic=476#0
General: There is a light boss (Fjola Lightbane) who casts light spells, and a dark boss (Edyis Darkbane) who casts shadow. There are 2 light portals and 2 dark portals, one at each corner of the room. Clicking on a light/dark portal will give you the corresponding aura. Since you get +100% dmg for dmging the boss of the opposite color, everyone should be in dark aura if assigned to Lightbane, and light aura if assigned to Darkbane.
BALLS: During the encounter, dark and light balls will be floating around. If you touch a ball of the same color as your aura, you gain 8 stacks of general buff and a speed boost. When general buff reaches 100 stacks, you get +100% dmg for 20s. Don't go too out of your way to grab these. If you touch an oppositely colored ball, it explodes, causing 5k dmg to anyone in 5 yards. (This is why healers should still be the same color as the people around them). Note that the bosses can absorb their similarly colored balls too, so don't let them get to 100 stacks or we wipe.
Surge of Light/Dark: Every minute, one of them starts channeling this ability. After 5s, it starts casting a pulsing AoE doing 5k dps to everyone in the raid who isn't of its same color. So...when you see "Darkbane starts channeling Surge of Dark," make sure you have the dark aura in the next 5s. Note that half of the raid should already be in dark aura, and if you switch, you'll be switching right back after the cast is over.
Shields: Every minute, one of them puts up a 250k HP shield, and starts channeling a 20% heal (Twin's Pact). You have 15s to take down the shield interrupt the cast AFTER the shield is down. Ranged dps should be switching here to help take it down.
VIDEOS From an affliction lock POV: »www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUkXzu7rsOM I really like the lock one because the view is very zoomed out, so you can see the path of the balls, and the general raid movement very well. Even if you're a healer, I'd watch some of this.
From a resto shaman POV: »www.youtube.com/watch?v=91gSuvZfHIg
TLDR ALL: Start with the opposite color of the boss you are assigned. When light/darkbane starts channeling Light/Dark Vortex, make sure you have that same color in the next 5s. Feel free to switch back after the AoE stops. Collect balls that are your same color, avoid balls that aren't. You stay on 1 boss the whole time.
Dps: Dps the oppositely colored boss from what color you are now. If you are black, kill whitey, and vice versa. Range dps, when one of them shields, switch to it immediately, then switch back when the shield is down. Heals: Melee take a 12k 8yd hit every once in awhile. Otherwise raid dmg is pretty light. Valkyrs seem to have activated 15s dmg increasing abilities. Tanks: Tank your valkyr near its SIMILARLY colored portal. When they start the AoE channel, just pop into the same color portal immediately, and then start running to the other portal. Click the other-colored portal to return to normal tanking after the AoE dmg stops. They have some abilities that increase dmg temporarily, watch for them. |

We get to unlock heroic next week! |

| reply to xcal78 Going in tonight for the Twins, thank for indeed for this brief to the point post. The Faction Champions can be rather tedious as mentioned above due to the rather nicely tuned ai on that event. All in all though this Argent patch seems to be simply a rather easy way to hand out epics.
Thank god for Google as I never would of thought to look here. Odd I never really noticed these forums here and have been using dslreports to benchmark for years. |

1 edit | reply to xcal78 We did this fight tonight.
It's an absolute joke.
Going from the Champions to this just felt....under-tuned maybe?
I don't know, it just was not a difficult fight at all.
I can say though, the absolute baddest melee dps trinket dropped from them tonight for us, Oh my god it was a godly trinket. |

The twin fight was easy overall. The only hard part is grabbing the correct color and attacking the boss with the shield then stunning the heal. If you can do that part then it's cake.
I do love the loot from ToC25 tho! |

| Is their health linked together? We killed them last night in 10-man on the second try (first try you could tell some people were not listening when we explained the strat, lol, once everyone listened it was easy). We were thinking that maybe they had to die at the same time, but I noticed that their health was virtually identical the whole fight. I doubt we perfectly split our dps like that, so my first impression is that they are linked. |

I got hosed last night on our ToC25 run as I was asked to play my offspec boomkin for the entire thing. Lucky for me my boomkin is still full 25man geared and can pull 4-4.5k dps without much trouble. Sadly my offspec boomkin dusted the main spec boomkin last night in our guild.
A bit more info on the fight:
Break the raid into 2 teams with equal melee, ranged, & healers on each side and naturally 1 tank per side. Call the one team the 'Light' and the other the 'Dark'. The 'light' team will start at 2 and grab the dark aura while the 'dark' team will start at 1 and grab the light aura. When you start the fight the 'light' team's tank will run up to the light X and tank it there while the 'dark' teams tank will run up and tank the dark boss at the dark X. Everyone else will group around the 3 or 4 portals. All ranged dps should be able to dps both bosses with this setup so you can switch aura's fast and kill the shield as needed.
When they do the aoe ability or shield you can stay your current aura or switch fast by setting it up this way. If your forced to switch aura's as soon as the aoe is over or the heal is stunned run and switch back aura's then get back into position. Grab the same color balls when you can and dodge the opposite color balls if you can. We had everyone switch when needed for the aoe and the shield but the tanks never switched they just stayed in place and tanked. We made sure the tanks were the primary target to heal for the aoe phases since they would be taking heavy damage because they didn't switch aura's.
The bosses have a shared health pool so reguardless of if you damage light or dark your killing the same bosses health pool. I'd recommend you macro the bosses names so you can switch faster to kill the shield and stun the heal. As long as you do that you win the fight as it stands. |

| Speculation time.... I have a feeling that the heroic version will place a MUCH bigger emphasis on grabbing the orbs and making sure the bosses do not get orbs. We pretty much ignored them during our fight unless they were right next to us, but I can see them making the buff almost mandatory in the heroic version. |
