How to configure separate, public Inet access on home NW

I have a Linksys WRT54G cable/dsl router on my home network. This router is hosting a 192.168.x.x network which is my private network. I would like to add a second Linksys router to provide only Internet access for public use and keep those public users off of my home network.

The link below shows how to cascade two routers, the "main" and the "second". Will users connecting to the second router be able to access the Internet and not see my private network? If so, Iguess I'm not understanding why this would work.

Thanks for the insight....

The description is not the clearest I have seen.

What I think they are describing, and what works, is:
Connect the second router to your ISP. That gives it internet access.

Connect your main router to the second router, but change the LAN ip of the main router to a different subnet.

Your main router then has access to the internet via the second router.

The second router cannot see the LAN on your main router, because the firewall of the main router blocks that.

Note that it gets more complicated if you are doing any port forwarding.

None of those options protect you against people that are savvy - remember all traffic from the main router still would have to go through a 'compromised' router" to get to the internet. I believe however that with third party firmware on the linksys units you can actually setup properly separated networks. Hoping someone can provide more info. I am familiar with the zyxel NBG334W which has a second WIFI only network that only has access to the internet and not the private LAN.
