said by public :As long as you use only a subset of the advertised features, the router may be adequate for your application. So would be DLink, Airlink, Linksys, Trendnet, Belkin....... Huh??? Why would I only use a subset of the advertised features? I currently use just about all the features advertised and they work great. You're getting silly now.
NONE of those other routers listed can touch the current wireless range or speed or feature set I am getting with the WNDR3700. I have owned and tried Linksys, DLink and Belkin(can't say much for Trendnet or Airlink but since Trendnet is a clone of DLink, it's most likely similar).
Seriously tho, who are you to tell me what the router I am using can and can't do when you have never used one? Simply comical. If you think it's a clone then there's not much else I can say other than like I said previously, I'll continue to enjoy my WNDR3700 and you go on with your clone router. |

Well, The QOS configuration options just don't work, something that I was looking for. Also, I rolled back the firmware to the initial release after mine automatically updated itself to what is now reclassifed as a beta version. I found that the web user interface would choke after a while when configuring the device using the automatically updated firmware. I am happy with the device, but do agree with "public" when (s)he says "As long as you use only a subset of the advertised features, the router may be adequate for your application" -- "When will they ever learn? When will they ever learn?" Pete Seeger 1961

I am not telling you it is a clone. I am saying that Netgear purchased a design from a Taiwan ODM that sells to other rebranders, and attaches a netgear label to the box. The firmware is likely from a Bangalore contractor. Just enjoy your router make the sun rise every day, because in 6 months you will say how can anybody sell such a POS. By the way range is mostly dependent on the installation location. In an open field all of the routers have similar range because the radios and antennas are very similar. |

1 edit | Well I can tell you the 3700 has much better range and signal strength than the old wrt600n , router is in the same spot and now all my comps get a strong signal in spots that the 600 could not reach at all . 8 antennas on the 3700 internal , 3 external on the wrt600n |

1 edit | reply to Wikkedfin Signal all depends where you live and age of you house. One user might say they get terrible range another one might say they get great range. All depends. A lot of the other brands have weak TX most are 42-45TX while other can get 50-256TX if you use third party firmware. Still no doubt this router is stronger the the rest out their sure you have one of the largest CPU and RAM available for now. |

I had a WRT600n before this router and with the WNDR3700 located in the exact location as the WRT600n, my signal strength is so much better that it was somewhat shocking(on the 2.4ghz side only tho). |

join:2007-04-03 Lexington, KY | reply to Wikkedfin No problems at all with overheating. Both of mine are in the stands they came with, as I think it puts those internal antennas in the correct position for best reception. I looked at the FCC photos, and it appears that is the case. |

| I just set up the WNDR3700 this weekend, and am happy with it except for the scheduling function. I need to set it to allow HTTP access to certain computers during 1-2PM only. I achieved this by denying Port 80 access from 12AM-1PM and 2PM-11:59PM on my previous router. This doesn't seem possible on the Netgear, as it only allows you to block services within one time range.
Anyone know a way around this? |
