1 edit | [netopia] Help with Netopia 3347-02
Hi everyone, been reading these forums for a few weeks, finally decided to register to ask a question. I have recently bought a netopia 3347-02 dsl modem/router. The problem I have is I seem to be locked out of many options to configure it properly and set up port forwarding. I'm logged in as admin, but I simply cannot find the option to enter expert mode. I've made sure I am on the latest firmware, updated it twice even. Rebooted many times, looked through every single menu option and page, but all I can really access is a dumbed down firewall, setup and wireless config, and pretty much nothing else.
Can anyone give me any advise here? Thanks in advance
Edit: I've found and read the various threads on how to get this router out of "idiot-proof mode" I have att_SkuConv_705.exe and the latest firmware .bin file. I try to follow the instructions: "double-click on the file named att_SkuConv_705.exe.
Click the Next button. Click the Accept button. Click the Next button. Click the Finish button." But all that pops open is a dialog box for a half second, then nothing else. |

| Arghhh, this is just endless frustration. I have tried to run att_SkuConv_705.exe on on all of my computers, but each time it fails to run. This is what both of my computers runnning XP64 say:
My brothers' computer with Windows Vista 64 will simply not run the file period, it just crashes. I've also tried to run it on Windows 7 RC, but it simply brings up an unknown error for a split second and the box disappears.
I have hard reset the router several times and tried a fake @bellsouth.net name. I get the full interface I want, but after I redo my @ameritech.net name it instantly goes back to the noobified useless interface, no matter how many times I try to repeat the bellsouth steps.
This router in this state is useless for what I want. I tried calling the tech support number and they had no idea what I was talking about. PLEASE HELP. |

That's the problem, I don't have a PC running xp32. I am trying to track down someone who does so I can cart the router over there and run it. My roomate and another friend all have laptops with vista.
This has just been a huge aggravation. I bought this from a AT&T tech who was on call to test my 2wire 2701hg-b, he determined the wireless chip had died on it and sold me this Netopia to replace it. Yesterday I had a 30 minute phone call with AT&T where they told me they don't support this router, and because I am able to get online with it they say it's not their issue.
Can someone tell me exactly what att_SkuConv_705.exe does? I assume it communicates with the router over an ethernet cable and tells it to get out of its idiotic RBAN mode. Shouldn't it be possible to just update the firmwire with that crap disabled?
I would really appreciate any suggestions or help, because otherwise tomorrow I am going to drive out an hour to use my parent's computer to try and run att_SkuConv_705.exe on it.
Thanks again |

| I've never used the 64-bit version of Windows XP, so this might be a stupid question: The 32-bit version of XP has a Compatibility Mode, where you can make the Operating System seem like Windows 95, etc. in order to possibly run older software. Does the 64-bit version of XP have a Compatibility Mode where you can make it act like the 32-bit version? If so, try running your application this way on one of your PC's, before you drive over to your parents' house.

I drove up and visited my parents, I was able to hook up the router and get connected on their earthlink dsl in 5 minutes. I ran att_SkuConv_705.exe and after a reboot I had the interface I liked. I got into the settings and started configuring port forwarding, everything went perfectly.
I get back and after setting up the router to get online with my ameritech.net account. And you know what it did? It reverted back to the IDIOT-PROOF RBAN crap after I did a save and restart. What the hell???
Unless someone has any further suggestions, I'm probably going find suitable replacement and put this sucker up on ebay. |

| Have you tried Telnet in order to access the unit's Command-Line Interface?
Have you tried a different firmware version?
If these suggestions don't help, using a different model may be your best option. You may not want to try another Netopia, but I can definitely state that the Model 3346N-002 (essentially the 3347 without the wireless) with the 7.5.1 r10 firmware has no problems accessing the Expert Mode. I have one of these set up on my AT&T DSL account- not the easiest thing to configure, but, once you figure out how to set it up, it works very well. With the numerous configuration options, it can be customized for many different situations (both Business and Residential). Am I happy with it? Yes. |

| reply to Umphrey Doh! I tried an earlier firmware and I got a BSOD while it was uploading. I can't access it at all. I've tried a hard reset, tried another computer. All that happens is a red light blinks on the router endlessly. Can't access anything on it to flash the firmware again. I'm gonna assume it is bricked.
I ended up buying a $15 Motorola dsl modem off ebay and a linksys wrt54gl router from newegg. After 4 days downtime, everything arrived and it took just 10 minutes to hook everything up. The linksys was so easy to configure.
I sure as hell am never touching another netopia product in my life. |
