1 edit | [Other] Good deal from RCN / Northampton, PA
So yesterday I received my normal bill in the mail. In it, was an offer for new customers only, that was so good, I decided to call and ask why I couldn't get it. Well, they gave it to me. It was a tripple play of 10mps internet, Digital tier cable, and unlimited local and long distance telephone service. It also included one digital box, and one HD/DVR box, and the SHOWTIME,TMC,and Starz premium channels. All for $109.99 +tax. That's less than what I'm currently paying, and I don't have phone, I have the 5mps internet, and I don't have a DVR. This is a 12month rate. So I'm sure I'll have to negotiate at the end of the 12months, but this is a very good deal. I'm glad I called. |

I did the same thing earlier this week. Found the package advertised on RCN's web site. In addition they lowered the rate for my 2nd HD box by $2. Hey $2 is $2
But I don't see that it includes the 1 digital box AND 1 HD/DVR

| reply to quattrog I always call the cancellation department (1800ringrcn, cancel service option) at the end of my promos. I usually get the same or better rate.
Right now, I'm paying ~ $174 with taxes, all the premium channels, full phone (caller id, waiting, etc etc), and 20mbps internet. 1 HD-DVR, and 3 SD boxes.

| reply to tigrzeye Tigreye, it looks like the same one. But in the add that was in my bill, it specified a digital stb and HD/DVR. I spoke to the person and questioned her several times about that. And she said yes. Now, that one box is an SD box, and the DVR is the only HD box. I'll let you know after Tuesday, when they will be here to set everything up. |

This IS a good deal...however I called on it and it locks you into a contract for a year. If you drop any services you will be changed a 149.00 fee. I dont really like the idea of being in a contract.....especially if FIOS comes along. |

I dont really like the idea of being in a contract.....especially if FIOS comes along. Verizon will usually help you cover any cancellation fees if you join their services, especially FIOS, they want to kill the cable co's really bad. It's more than likely that Fios will give you a month free of services to help cover that $149 fee.

| reply to quattrog RCN just left. I now have a nice new DVR (dcx3400) and phone. The phone is voip. But it sounds just fine. I figure, I'm saving at least $70.00 a month over what I was paying for a land line and now having the dvr. Plus, the phone is unlimited long distance. Yes, there is an early termination fee. But it's the same with Sat TV if you go that route. And $149.00 isn't that bad if you figure in my case, I'll save that amount in just about two months. The only thing I think will be an issue, is that this is a 12 month deal. They quoted me a regular price of over $200.00 a month. So what will they do when the year promo is up? But I'll cross that when I come to it. |

just don't forget to hit the cancellation option in the menu. Regular CSRs can't adjust things.

| reply to quattrog Just an update. There was a $39.99 install charge for the the new phone service. I didn't see that originally. Now looking at the add, it states in the small print, "additional charges may apply for new or additional jacks for phone service". It pays to read the fine print. |

| reply to quattrog I'm in Beth (Hanover) and have gone "back" to RCN for the past 2 years. Last year my promo ran out, I called and they lowered my bill 3 bucks from the promo for another year. I dropped Verizon totally (had their DSL,phone,DirecTV package) and the RCN phone is vastly better than Verizon. In 2 years it has never been out one minute (much better than Verizon). Call quality is far, far better. My Altronics alarm works fine, too (because RCN phone has REAL phone switches, unlike Vonage, et al). You'll like your RCN phone if you're like me. We also got rid of our answering machine (wife clung to it awhile, but now can't be bothered). She is used to the built-in voicemail now. MUCH better....especially when we're on vacation and call for messages. Caller ID works the same as Verizon (as does about everything else) except no more cross-talk and static! |
