Re: [northeast] Brooklyn,NY FIOS Deployments I saw some permits from Verizon in my area for CONDUIT CONSTRUCTION AND FRANCHISE and CONSTRUCT OR ALTER MANHOLE &/OR CASTING. Could this be related to FIOS being built in my area? The permit for CONDUIT CONSTRUCTION and FRANCHISE is from Sept 1 to Oct 1 and the permit for CONSTRUCT OR ALTER MANHOLE &/OR CASTING is from Sept 13 to Oct 13. I am in zip 11206. Also for people living in Canarsie in MDUs, FIOS should be available in about two months or so because I seen poles being installed in the balconies of the buildings and a friend who lives there told me they seen Verizon installing the cables into the metal boxes on the poles. Thanks. |

1 edit | reply to lexuskool it looks like verizon has stopped applying for permits and dont see verizon doing new fiber being layed or put on poles. they still must be back logged from the verizon strike and the hurricane irene storm. anybody who can shed some light on when things will start picking up. is it because winter is coming up and things start slowing down. |

fatal join:2000-12-29 Brooklyn, NY | well i don't think they need permits to put fiber on the back poles or into the man holes unless the street needs to be opened up from what i have seen lately they been putting the fiber into manholes |

 | reply to lexuskool Check on the site for permits on Wednesday. They are usually posted on Wednesday. The latest permits were posted on Sept 28. |

That does not eliminate the requirement for VZ to wire all of NYC by 2014. -- There are 10 kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't.

 | reply to More Fiber Somehow I don't see FIOS coming to all of NYC by 2014. My area still doesn't have it and its been years now. |

 | reply to leo81486 does work on 70th street BR allow for fios to run all the way up to the 80s or does the 80s need another pole?
around Sept 2010 a hardhat that lived on FtHamilton in BR said we getting Fios come 1st qrtr 2011.
2011 is over, see zero fios in hard of Bayridge 80-90s. |

·Verizon FiOS
| reply to NYCFIOS I think it'll end up being around at least 80+ percent of NYC by 2014. I don't think it'll hit 100 percent simply because NYC has all kinds of red tape issues.
I think now that DSL customers are leaving in droves for faster , cheaper cable that Verizon will probably reconsider its strategy with FiOS and deploy more down the road. Verizon's DSL base is a bread and butter part of there business that they still want but they aren't offering FiOS upgrades in those area's so people aren't sticking around.
They'll be forced to stay competitive with cable , even though they went and rented a hotel room with cable by buying out some spectrum , they still haven't actually gone and done the nasty in the hotel room. |

 | reply to lexuskool Has anyone heard anything about the downtown Brooklyn area especially the brownstone areas? I live right by the Atlantic terminal and have been waiting for FIOS forever.
However the telco boxes in this area are in the back of the houses which creates an access issue. I'm at the point were the bandwidth in the house is saturated completely. I dono how much longer I can hold out as going to TMW is not an attractive option =/
Any info is greatly appreciated! |
