| Am i getting what I am paying for?
I'm paying $40 a month for this: Should I be getting more speed? I forget what speed was in the contract Is my line capable of getting higher speed? Does Comcast offer better?

| 1: Your modem is out of sync. By the looks of it you have the 3Mbps package (which is really 1.5Mbps package given your line attenuation). The proper sync rates should be 1792kbps for the download, and 448kbps on the upload. You can plug your modem into your home's NID, or wherever the demarcation point is between Verizon's copper network and your home's copper to see if the line is any better and can take more speed.
2: Comcast does offer better speeds than that. -- It's all fun and games in a Team Fortress 2 battle until your sentry gun is sapped by the Spycrab! |

| NID |
There are two different styles of test jacks commonly used by NIDs. One uses a standard modular jack. A short pigtail connects inside wiring to phone network. Unplugging jack disconnect inside wiring. The other has a special connector with an internal switch (much like alarm jack). Jack is behind customer side access door. Jack automatically disconnects inside wiring when a plug is inserted.
If your home was built prior to mid 1980's and never updated or you live in an apartment building may not have a NID.
