[DVR] DVR says it's full

We've only had the DVR for a few months and maybe there is something I don't know. Last night when it was time to record one of our programs we got a pop up box stating some needed to be deleted.

We only had a few hours saved on the DVR and it said there was I think %34 being used.

We have a few series we like that we record. Five to be exact.
What am I doing wrong, or is the DVR bad
Thanks

Did you try unplugging it for a minute or two and then plugging it back in? It usually updates the firmware and stuff when you do that. Might remedy the situation.

No, didn't try that, just deleted a bunch of programs I wanted to keep.
Mostly wondering if the thing is bad

I suppose its a possibility, but most of the time a reset will fix those flaky boxes. I have to do mine about once a month.

Will give that a try.
If it's plugged in all the time way doesn't this happen automatically?
I just spent 30 minutes trying to talk to a real person at Insight, which never happened so I will give this a try before I call them to come get this thing
Thanks

I am not sure why they have so many problems and if they update or not. I would assume that they should automatically but again sometimes the best remedy is a reboot. The nice thing about these boxes are every time they start up they re-download the firmware and software so its the equivalent of reformatting your computer and everyone knows that a computer operates its best right after a reformat. Then again it is also possible you have a bad box, from all the users I talk to on DSLR they are all to common. I have had my same box for quite a long time and have not had any problems with it yet. *crosses fingers* I have been looking into a tivo with cable cards though so that I can have the option to connect an external hard drive, I just wish insight would enable that. The boxes have the ability to do it, its just not enabled. Anyway good luck!

I did as you suggested. If this doesn't work I will just have them come take it out and go with Dish.
I'm really tired of messing with Insight. Spent another 30 min on hold after last post. Guess they don't care if a person is already signed up for their service
Thanks again

Well I am sorry to hear that. Good luck with Dish though. I still wish I had gone with them sometimes. Mostly because they have a ton more HD content.

Not sure which box you are using but this may be a known issue.

The DVR menu erroneously states the DVR hard drive is 100% ful

»en.wikibooks.org/wiki/How_to_use···.25_full

I've covered many of the other problems that crop up with the DVR units here »iggyz.com/?p=6182

What is aggravating is almost all of these are known issues that have not been properly addressed for some reason.
