| D-Link DVA G3810BN Gateway
As of yesterday this gateway replaces the 2-Wire 2700HG-E for TTV. The 2Wire is being discontinued by Telus and will no longer be produced by 2Wire. The Siemen's Gigaset will be used for adsl, and the Thomson Speedtouch will be used for Lite Highspeed and business. »www.dlink.com/products/?pid=651 Telus also stocks a D-link high gain antenna, so the customer can get more distance with his wireless connection. |

@telus.net | Have any techs gotten their hands on with this thing yet? I'm very interested in how the firmware is like like compared to the likes of the SE567. Thanks! |

| reply to river_ratbc I quite like them. Easy to setup and very user friendly. Also comes with a nice USB port for Network accessible storage. The best part is it has 4 Tv Devices in one, Modem+Router+Wireless Access+HCNA (Converts Ethernet to Coax)! -- The views expressed herein are that of my own and not necessarily that of my employer or any associated entities. |

| reply to river_ratbc I've been using the new modem for a few days now. I'd like to change the DNS settings, but I can't seem to find a way to change the DNS from "Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically" to specify the DNS
The default wireless antenna seems to have pretty good coverage. The wireless settings in the router will only let you select from 3 channels 1, 6 and 11 which I thought was a little odd.
I've tried the connecting a 4GB USB stick on the router and I was able to access from my PC, but I wasn't able to access the USB stick on the Mac (I suspect a setting on the Mac needs to be change).
I haven't tried the HCNA, so I can't comment on it.
I haven't tried the high gain antenna, as the antenna that it comes with provides good enough coverage for me.
Feels like a good solid modem. |

The other channels all have a little interference. |

Got this gateway today.
After going through the tabs, I finally found where to set a static IP for my print server. Services / Advanced / DNS Server - click + (New DNS Entry). |

Allow Other Network Users to Control Router's Network Features under System / Management / Universal Plug and Play
The default is checked (on). Is it better to uncheck this? |

| reply to river_ratbc Re: D-Link DVA G3810BN Gateway
Really late to this thread (missed it the first time). However just as a matter of interest I had TTV installed at the end of April and got one of these. That's three months before the OP. I must have got one off the first shipment or something! |

| reply to river_ratbc well, after playing around with the D-Link, I must say I'm very disappointed in the wireless strength. Even with the high gain antenna, on the D-Link, the 2Wire still has a stronger signal. We were told that the D-Link would be better for warehouses, farms with outbuildings, etc... Not the case, and now we have no more 2 Wires in stock. So the Siemens and the D-Link are it. |

| reply to river_ratbc I was wondering how i would go about getting telus to switch my 2wire for one of these. i find when i download torrents i cannot access http sites everything else works even ftp. i think the 2wire can't handle the amount of connections that torrents cause. i limit my torrent speeds to 280KB/Sec down and 40Kb/sec up so i know it isn't using up all the available bandwidth. here is a speed test i just did. would this dlink gateway be able to handle the connections better than the 2 wire?

You can call in and ask, but it might be a little difficult, as the modems are only issued to TTV customers (unless you are a TTV customer, then no problem, I guess). Maybe try calling 310-MYTV first?
Or if you're in Edmonton, you can call in a slow speed trouble ticket (politely push for a tech dispatch), and ask the tech when they get there. The tech might have one on the van... Less likely if you live in an area where there's no TTV nearby.
Hell, a Siemens gateway might fix your problem too. I haven't heard of them choking with many connections so far. -- - The content of this post is my opinion, and does not reflect the opinions of my employer. - |
