If you login into your Gizmo5 account you will see that Gizmo5 has added a Google Voice Calling section in its members area.
Here is pretty decent guide on how to configure GV account to place outbound calls via a Gizmo5 account. Note this guide explains how to use a Gizmo5 softphone as well as how to set up an ATA to provide the ability to make outbound calls using your GV and G5 accounts. »www.jrin.net/2009_07_26/use-gizm···le-voice |

| reply to macman4hire This is from the GV forum:
"Gizmo will be launching a free US limited calling with GoogleVoice starting this upcoming week. All you will need to do is log into your my.gizmo5.com account and configure your GoogleVoice credentials and start calling to the US- free of charge... no callout credits needed! It is still being tested this weekend... so it may not work yet until Gizmo5 announces it but you will see it as a placeholder in the my.gizmo5.com page." |

1 edit | reply to macman4hire I guess it still in testing mode. When I enter my credentials for GV it just goes to same page without the credentials. It would be cool to see this work. I just wonder what the catch is going to be.
Added... Is this a way for Google to circumvent not having to offer 911 service? |

2 edits | reply to macman4hire This looks to me like a half step towards Google buying out Gizmo5 and integrating fully. They are testing the waters to see how many people try it and how it will work for them. I'd bet in the next 6 months Gizmo will turn into GoogleSIP.
Edit: I sent them a support ticket telling them the page isn't saving GV credentials. I don't think it will help but I gave it a shot. |

| Thanks for sending them a ticket.
I happened to visit the Gizmo5 site today and noticed that area between two other sections.
I got very excited, and was planning to whip out an extra ATA device and plug into them tonight.
I hope that this isn't just a tease from Gizmo5.
Leave it to them to cause premature evaluation. |

1 edit | reply to macman4hire Yes, working well, with an ATA.
Thank you GV and G5.
---------------------------------
Made several calls outbound, to Verizon landline, Verizon wireless, and VoIP lines (CallCentric and VoIP.MS)
All OK but there is about a 2 second delay.
The outbound calls do seem to be free. There was no deduction made from my Gizmo5 funds.
Interestingly, no record of the calls appeared either on the Gizmo5 list or the GoogleVoice list. |

1 edit | reply to cadmonkey said by cadmonkey :It looks like you have to supply your gmail address and password that your GV account is tied to, seems a bit of a security risk. Agreed, but my GV account uses a totally different e-mail address (it's even from from a different e-mail provider) and a totally different password.
I changed both when I "upgraped" from GrandCentral.
At this point, changing the e-mail address might be hard, but GoogleVoice does give you the option of adding more e-mail addresses tied to the GV account. Perhaps you could use a different e-mail address in your ATA settings.
As for the GoogleVoice PASSWORD, that's easy to change, and it certainly would be a good idea to use a different password for GoogleVoice (different from all of your other Google accounts). |

| reply to macman4hire My outbound caller ID with this new Gizmo5/GoogleVoice setup is my GoogleVoice number.
Well, actually----
The GoogleVoice number shows up on the caller ID screens of the phones that I am calling. My name does not show, but rather the city (rate center) that the GoogleVoice number originates from.
BUT:
When I call the MCI numbercheck 1-800-444-4444, it reads back my Gizmo5 account number (1-747-xxx-xxxx) instead of the GoogleVoice number.
--------------------------------
I love Voip.
---------------------------------
All Gizmo5 numbers are in what used to be a "pretend" area code, 747. But now, 747 is a REAL area code in California. This is gonna cause problems sooner or later. Let us hope that Gizmo5 has thought about this. |
