Need Satellite Equipment

I'm an Army Veteran that will soon be going homeless due to the economy. I'm in the process of packing up and getting ready to move west to live on rented desert property.

I still have an online business, but it's only enough to pay the cheap property rent, but my problem is this will be a very remote location with no cell phone, power lines (I'll have a solar panel), and no internet, so I need a means of connecting to the internet remotely, so I'm hunting around for used serviceable satellite equipment, and a means to convert it to a portable system that I can use to connect to the net and still run my business as it's the only income I'll have until sometime next year when my Army medical pension kicks in.

Any help and/or assistance would be greatly appreciated

Best Regards,

Gary Graham

TRIA's are easy to find on ebay, but I am not sure how easy it is to find a complete system there. The shipping fee for the bulky dish adds to the expense. You might be able to find someone willing to sell a complete used system here at BBR or at Wildblue Uncensored.

Pay attention to the circular polarization of the TRIA because WB has two satellites that use different polarizations:

Anik-F2 uses a left-handed TRIA.
WB-1 uses a right-handed TRIA.

As long as you get a WB system and not one for Telesat in Canada the rest of the parts work on either satellite.

You would need someone at Wildblue to provision your account for you which means you need an installer's help. Wildblue does not allow customers to install their own systems although you can install a pole in concrete, dig a trench for the cables and supply your own coaxial cables and conduit, provided you do it right. The instillation and alignment of the dish is critical. If you get a bad installation, then your system will perform poorly, intermittently or not at all.

Wildblue is not a portable system although you could probably get away with it as long as you move it around within the region of your spot beam. You will need a signal meter to align the dish with the satellite although a cheap $10 one can be made to work.

You will still have to pay the monthly service fee which will be at least $49.95 per month. If you are moving to the desert in Arizona, the spot beams servicing the area do not suffer from prime time slowdown meaning you will probably get close to the advertised speeds.

Too bad you don't live closer, you can have my dish and TRIA. I turned the modem back in though.

If you are relocating to Arizona, PM me, I could have some options that might work

Re: Need Satellite Equipment

I replace so many WB with HN that I give them away as long as I don't have to pack and ship. Since you are a homeless vet I would be happy to send you a modem and a TRIA if you can find a dish.
