How can I boost my signal ?

I've noticed there are downloads to boost the wifi signals. Anyone know of a good download to help the Fios signal. We had Time Warner before, and the fios isn't better at all. We have teh Westell Ultraline Series 3 9100em, and we aren't very happy with the wireless. They say its fine, but its much slower than what we are used to. suggestions ??

suggestions ??
A booster antenna,
a reflector to focus the signal,
antenna orientation,
change from b/g to g only,
eliminate interference.

An early Actiontec fix was to disable logging, presumably allowing more CPU cycles for the routing.

If what you had with TW was an N-router, you won't get that with FiOS. You may need to replace the Westell with your own hardware. But the Westell is improved wireless over the Actiontec, so I'm not sure what you're comparing the Westell to.

what did you mean by switching the b/g to g??

It may just be the area we live in. Lots of trees around us and my wife's cell phone doesnt get coverage in the house. Thanks for the advice.

b and g are protocols. b is an older standard. b/g is mixed, while obviously g is only g. If your wireless equipment is not really old, you are probably using g. The poster was indicating that switching from mixed b/g to g may be an improvement for you.

Read about it on wiki:

Router setting. Actiontec screen shot I got to by Wireless Settings / Advanced Security Settings / Level 3 -- 802.11b/g Mode.

Getting there in the Westell may be different, but it's there.

Your problems reside in the house not in the trees. It's two different problems. The router is broadcasting from within the house.

It could also be an issue with the power to the router. We suggest to have the router directly plugged into the wall and now a powerstrip of any sorts.

If you are still having inconsistant throughput, we could try replacing the router aswell.

I myself notice a loss of reception/issues when changing the b/g for G only on the ActionTec router.

The only way to solve your problem, connect another router to it that has Wireless,a nd connect it via the LAN connection and bridge it. Done.
