I am looking to get a new wireless router and need some advice..
I do want to get a "N" router more for future wireless use than what I use it for right now.
My useage now and for the near future is 95% wired and local network use and I have a chance to pickup a new D-Link DIR-628 router locally for $35.
Now, I also can order a recertified NETGEAR WNR3500 for the same price and it has gigabyte ports.
Since most of my useage is through my wired network (pc's, streaming video/audio, file transfers...) wouldn't I be better off with the gigabyte ports? Does it make a big difference? -- Core 2 Duo E6300 Gigabyte 945P-S3 2 GB OCZ DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) ATI X1900GT

Does it make a big difference? It really depends on your usage. You're not going to see any improvement except in local area file transfers and even then you may not notice. I am able to play a DVD from a different computer using a "B" router and a wireless connection. If you do large file copies on your network the gigabyte ports would benefit you. If you do mostly web surfing then you're not going to see a benefit. -- When will the people realize that with DRM they aren't purchasing anything? |
