Some install pictures.

AP 1, on building roof

Backhaul to AP2

Full shot of setup on roof

Board in basement, pardon some of the mess... its a death trap down there.

AP2... that was a pain to work on, lol

Full shot of AP2

Power feed

Locked for a reason... no little prying hands from the park children!
I went and got a few pictures of the install referred to in this thread: »RouterOS Questions and more recently about how bad the location is for AP1 in this thread: »[OT] Find the code violation!

Sorry for the low res, i sorta need to remember to check the camera before i shoot, lol.

Very nice!

Is that blue cat 5 outdoor rated though? I just came across a bunch of blue comscope cable when I snarfed a couple of customers from another wisp earlier this week. I was afraid to use it so I just replaced it.

I'd be careful in that basement!

Not a ground in sight!
Those omnis are really nice lightning air terminals.

all my equipment is grounded. Inside the boxes are 5.8ghz and 2.4ghz surge suppression as well as ground bonding to the backboard. Final runs go down the building and pole and into a grounding rod.

I can't say much else for the building ground though....

Rhaas: Sadly that s not outdoor cable. As far out as i am i'd need to have it ordered and shipped here, and the project was an ASAP as part of the park had no coverage and they were shedding tenants cause of this. Later down the road i'll end up having to replace it, and when i do it will be outdoor with powder.

Ahh. I was wondering since I ripped that cable out from the two customers if that cable was infact outdoor rated.

I could see the ground on the demarc/equipment board picture and after looking at pics of the power at that location I figured grounding was going to be tough.

The only thing I'll suggest is that you bond the mounts and also bond the antenna's as well. Bonding the antenna is just my personal preference, bonding the mount which the antenna attaches to should suffice. It may save you a bit of headache with equipment damage.

I wish more people would take the time to post pics of their installs. It's good to see how others are doing things and give the rest of us a chance to steal err borrow ideas!

Looks like you got a managed t1 just for this location?

Are those cables secured to the roof at all?

cooldude9919: yes we do

SuperWISP: Yes, but not on that side of the eve on the roof as the equipment is actually higher than where it crosses to the other side of the roof, and that particular section is around 10 feet in length. From the tip of the roof where it crosses down, and to the side of the wall it does down it is secured.

What did you seal the lag bolts with or whatever that SAT Mount is what appears in the center of the roof?
That to me looks like the most likely candidate for a leak.

We never attempt to do that we usually have a roofer or electrical guy run it up thru the roof with flashing, weatherhead and seal it properly so we are not liable for a leak down the road..

Luckily this time around we aren't liable. This was an old site with a cobbled setup that was replaced with a mikrotik system. In between us setting up the old one and this new one, they re-roofed the place (it had roughly 40 year old shingled, almost all had no stone left) and upon finishing the roof they put it up and tarred over the bolts with roofing tar. All of my brackets put in for wiring have sealing self tap screws.

::EDIT:: on a funner note... i just got back from that particular site because the smart jack card on the hdsl circuit delivering the t1 was blown out... again. Would be the 2nd once since the circuit was put in less than a year ago. Good thing i keep spares on hand because ATT is slow to deploy. They just leave the westell box open anymore and come in and swap cards with me after i call.... then leave my card in the 2nd bay not hooked up for me to pick back up.

Is the mount really grounded? Neither the bracket nor the grid on the side seem grounded. When the omni is struck by lightning will you be liable for damage to the building?

the grid itself on the side isn't grounded, it is sat under the eve. All the rest is. The green wire terminates into the rb box, and ground the backplane, box, and mount and 2 sets of surge suppressors in the box itself, one for each antenna

Next time you see the AT&T tech who installed that NCTE and ground bar smack him for not having a number 6 run to that grounding bar.

An NCTE can be grounded with a number 10, but once a ground bar is installed a 6 is required to the bar.

I would also recommend you install a low voltage surge suppressor, something with a breakdown under 10 volts or so on the subscribers side of the NCTE. The network side will have 400 volt protectors and if that NCTE takes a hit that passes through the SmartJack you might not need to replace a router if you have a well grounded surge protector on the subscriber side.

By the way don't forget bonding to.

router is there's too.... it's managed service with a router, so that is the ball dropped on their part as well.... but i think i have a something here laying around that i can put in for it.

The #10 ground is the fault of my own. I had #10 ran in there for some of the old equipment and he grabbed it to use his bar and then split it between the bar to the NCTE, Router, and my original stuff when we moved off sat to T1. I should prob go back and run in some #6 for this one.

There isn't much to bond to unfortunately, as out of all the meter banks on this house, the one that goes down into the basement isn't bonded outside at all, it dates circa 1930's - 40's probably, so in order to bond it all together I'd have to ground the system myself... which i don't know if i want to open that can of worms if you check out the other thread in the original post.

I have never ever seen an AT&T tech that would run the ground. They will go to a site and cancel the install because the customer did not supply the ground.

Yes I have a very, very bad opinion of the AT&T and the CWA.

I do believe what I posted was "not having a number 6 run to that grounding bar" I never said nor implied the AT&T tech would run the number 6 as supplying the proper ground to that bar is the subscribers job.

That’s too bad as I work for AT&T and am a member of the CWA.

By the way we don't cancel installations we jeopardize the job for missed appointment due to subscriber not ready for install.

I have never been told by AT&T to have a ground pulled to where ever they will pick to install the smart jack. I know about it because they showed up and left without telling the customer or us.

Here lately they install the smart jack where ever they can install it with the least amount of work as possible. There are several buildings with telco closets where they simply refuse to install the smart jack in that room. They will now install the smart jack on the outside of the building but then cancel because there was not a ground available. It would be nice if they would tell us they are not going to install the smartjack in the same place as the others and that a ground is needed. It's happened to me twice this year.

I've had it with the CWA and some the complete bullshit rules they come up with. I've had guys who will not pull on a pull string because that's someone else job. So I pulled it my self instead of waiting an hour for who ever had to show up and pull it.

It would have been nice to have been old that. I guess that's someone else's job. In the last 60 days I have more shit delayed because of the phrase "That's not my job." It's also no one's job to tell us what is needed on various projects.

That is because a circuit unlike dial-tone is to be installed to the Minimum Point of Entry (MPOE) if that is outside that is where it is installed, it’s you job as the end user to extend it to where you need it or supply a ways and means and pay to have it extended further in.

The Local CoNtact (LCN) will be notified of the jep and if that is not you then whoever is the LCN is has the responsibility to notify you of the jep.

The CWA doesn’t write those rules they are in the Tariff’s which if you had taken the time to read you would understand it is your responsibility to provide a ways and means to pull in the cable including a pull line or mule tape and a proper ground.
