| Very slow internet
Last year, after wasting a couple of months dealing with tech support troublshooting things I have done already, finally I got a Verizon guy to show up at my house. Told him I was having slow internet during 3pm-12am on weekdays and all day on weekends. He said I should call Verizon and have them move me to a less congested DSLAM. That resolve the issue last year. Well, I 've been having slow internet again for the last couple of months but now it seem to be 24/7. Speedtest from Verizon is from 200/18 - 700/40 at best. Before I waste my time with Verizon tech support again, what can someone tell me base on these info:

| Welcome to BBR.
I assume you have the 3000/768 plan. Sync speed should be 3360/864. Modem is unable to maintain download and upload sync rate and download margin is an appalling 4 dB. When margin gets to 6 dB or below it has difficulty syncing, between 6-10 is very susceptible to noise disturbance. Ideally margin should be at least 10, higher the better.
First step is to determine if problem is due to something within your residence or beyond. Temporally connect modem to Telco NID test jack. This disconnects inside wiring and equipment. If stats improve something within your home is degrading DSL and you need to identity and correct it.
NID is normally located near electric meter but can be anywhere. If your home was build prior to mid 1980's and never upgraded or you live in an apartment complex you will not have an NID.
I assume DSL shares voice telephone. How is voice quality? Any noise especially when phone is first picked up? What about crosstalk, other voices? If voice service is not up to snuff call voice repair, not Verizon on-line to get line checked out.
If stats are still bad at NID and voice is OK call Verizon on-line to report the problem. Keep in mind you run the risk of having them fix the problem by downgrading your speed.

| Interesting, I reset the modem and it's taking over 3 minutes to sync each time. I'm not sure if I have a NID or not but I know where the telco box is in my house. As far as I know, the phone is clear. I have only 2 phone jacks and they are pretty close to the telco box... less than a 25 feet run each.
Called tech support. They are going to dispatch someone to check at the CO and possibly onsite if nothing at the CO. |
