| [XP] cannot execute after connecting
Hi, I am running a Windows XP SP3 , ZoneAlarm Free Firwall , AVG Free Antivirus and I connect to the internet via broadband wan connection and an adsl modem. I think my problem started when my ISP service went down and I tried to install my dial-up modem driver. Well it installed successfully but when I tried to connect trough it, an error came that that my device has an internal problem or sth and it didn't connect. But when my adsl service got ok, and I connected trough it after several hours I received an ip conflict error, even if I was offline. And when I connected to the internet my OS couldn't execute anything, even taskmgr ! I unistalled my modem, restored os several times to several checkpoints, scaned my computer but nothing worked. So I formated my drive C and installed a fresh copy of Windows XP SP3 and removed my internal dial-up modem from motherboard . But when I first connected to the internet behind zonealarm firewall os couldn't execute anything again... There was no ip conflict error but just after I disconnect it (explorer runs ok) all tasks run, and the problem goes away. |

| I'm a little confused by your post. What does "internal problem or sth" mean?
Installing dialup networking should have no effect on ADSL.

Was there some sort of error message? What do you mean "after I disconnect it?" What is it?
When you say ADSL modem is this just a dumb modem or modem/router? What type of ADSL do you have? Static IP, DHCP, PPPoE or very rare PPPoA? Most ADSL uses PPPoE which requires entering a username/passphase. The reason for the questions is to determine if router or PC is responsible for managing DSL connection.
From your description it is possible you have a PCI card ADSL modem rather then an external device? That is pretty rare now a days.
Who is your DSL provider? There are company specific forums for many of the larger ISPs.

| I mean when i try to open taskmgr nothing happens ... when I try to run anything ,nothing happens.. without any error messages
my adsl modem is a modem\router and i configured it as bridge and i connect trough a PPPoE connection. so i can disconnect it in windows.
and my adsl provider is not a well-known company. |
