iPod Touch Battery Life

OK, I got my new 15" MBP and a discounted Touch via the back to school promo. I got the 32 GB model so I could hold my entire music library. I guess I am old school-while I have owned macs >20 years, this is my first iPod.

What kind of battery life should I be getting? I see what is "rated", but that is nothing like what I am getting. About all I am using it for is playing some cheesy kids games I downloaded (Bed Bugs, Flight Control, FAST, Flick Bowling, etc.)-and after 30 minutes of use, the battery level is dropping fast. After an hour use (at most), I am getting 20% battery level warnings. Is this normal? The thing is getting rather warm.

If all I can get out of this is 2 hours when doing processor intensive things, that is sad. Using it to browse the web/email is completely futile: is like using tweezers to landscape the Amazon. And the music player makes it so difficult to get to your music. . .I guess it is fine if you set it to play and leave it alone (and let the screen turn off), but I think most people jump between songs on a whim. "Oh, I want to hear that. Ok, enough of that, I want this." Just listening to music sucks the battery, too!

EDIT: I am running the 3.0 OS.

I have had an 8GB iPod Touch since October. I would say the battery life was fairly respectable until recently. Although I haven't really played/used alot of processor intensive games or apps. I would say I could use the device upwards of 4 hours continuous before I would start getting the alerts and need to recharge. For some reason in the past month or so it seems like it has been lasting more like 2 hours. I mostly leave it turned off unless I will be actively using it and I always shut it down at night. So, 2 hours of battery life with a such a new device does sound a little fishy, unless you really are stressing it out with the apps you are running.

Lately, I am having to recharge mine alot more often now for some reason. A buddy of mine had the same issue creep up on him with his iPhone. He was all of a sudden having to recharge daily. I guess I wouldn't care us much if the battery was user replaceable.

Too bad those that know it all can't do it all.
