[Other] ooma - question about wiring

i'm considering ordering an ooma core system (which includes a hub and scout).

i would like all the phones in my house to my voip wired. how would i set this up?

i'm assuming i connect the ooma hub from behind my router. then i plug the "wall port" of the ooma hub into the existing phone port of my house?

where does the scout come into play?

Yes, you would plug the Ooma hub into your wall (I do this for my home). However, you must be certain to disconnect your external phone connection to the telephone company (assuming you have one). If you have DSL it gets more complicated, you must assure a home run to your DSL modem, but disconnect the telco service feed from all the other jacks in the house.

The scout will connect anywhere in the house. I have two Ooma hubs in my home, and don't use the scouts at all. Mostly as I don't use the premium service.

You can plug the Ooma hub into your home, then connect a scout off any other jack in your home. The scout communicates with the hub via HPNA. Calls made on the scout or answered by the scout won't be available to other analog phones wired in the house.

Personally I'm happy with just the hub.

I have my hub in my "wire closet" with the "phone" port connected to my Line 1 house wiring and the "wall" port connected to my Line 2 house wiring. You could run both into the same line but I figure I have the wiring I might as well give the entire pair of wires either to the "phone" or "wall" port data.

On the other end I have all my cordless phones connected directly to the wall plate. On my scout phone in the kitchen I'm using one of those L1, L2, L1+L2 splitters with the scout plugged into L2. This gives me the ability to use the instant second line (which I'm going to love more and more as my two boys get closer to being teenagers!).

Definitely take a look at the link garys_2k posted as it has valuable info on how to wire into existing home wiring setups.
