record videos displayed on the web

This seems like it would be a common question, but a search of this forum was useless.
When I watch a video on a site like maxim.com, it would seem this would be a file downloaded to my pc. I've looked in temporary internet files, but it's not there.

Is there free software that will capture the video in the same high quality I am viewing?
I know there are tools that work for sites like youtube but even then, the quality is reduced on the capture.

Yes its there but you have to grab it while the movie is playing....

The best way i discovered is finding the file AND MAKING IT 'READ ONLY' so it cant be removed when you close the movie window.. (Then you can convert it,etc)

Sometimes nothing is downloaded to the local hard drive other than a 2kb link file.
