It would show alot of goodwill on Cox's part if they'd get rid of the nickel & dime charges, just roll them into the package and make the bill much easier to read and understand.

Why purposely do something that infuriates your entire customer base?
Because the phone companies do it and if everyones doing it theres nobody to switch to.
