Does anyone know what kind of bees these are?

They put on a more than 6 hour long show.

Mods, feel free to delete if this is too graphic.

I'd say honey bees, but they look horny to me.

i recall from biology class that the male drones have no stinger and i dont see one on the top guy so honey is a good guess. but i was also thinking they dont do this until early fall. and the colors look kinda off....but i'm no expert. i do recall there's usually only 40-60 drones per hive of 10,000 or so. After mating season the worker throw the drones outside and they usually freeze to death....cant afford to feed them all winter.

I should mention the scale- these were substantially larger than honey bees. They were more the size of bumble bees, but I have never seen bumblebees that look like these.

I'd say they are carpenter bees. If you have any unfinished wood exposed, look around for holes drilled in rafters or studs. The bees drill holes about 1/4-5/16" diameter to lay eggs.
