Dear Friends,

Back from a real OS on a real hdd, notice the "regular gnome" on kakalaky's desktop, now mine, on my real pc -

leaving aside the car background, I thought I had fairly intelligent ergonomics, but see that the ice or flux type thing in the bottom with huge icons is more intuitive, although there was a reason why I set some things on the side and others on the top at one point.

Is my destop really way too cluttered? The Mint menus, by the way, are one step up from windows 95, so I am not sure why the developers spent time creating a menu where one has to know where things are visually, as it took me a moment or two to find the terminal app, which is generally the first thing one needs. I am beginning to think my desktop looks like gnome from 2000 or so.

Best,
M

The "regular gnome" is actually gnome, compiz and gnome do with the docky theme. I found docky to be a great way of launching aps. I can just click when my hand is on the mouse or use the regular gnome do keyboard launching when it's not. The only reason I even use compiz anymore is for docky.

As for your desktop being too cluttered, If it works for you then keep using it.

thanks, kak,
I appreciate the information and the time you took to answer, as I never would have found that on my own.
regards,
M
