| We just got a pair in the mail today. Looks like they are sending them out to everyone as it's tied into the promotion of "My Bloody Valentine" on PPV/VOD. Apparently, watching the trailer through VOD will trigger the system to send out another pair. | |

| Re: Free 3D Glasses From Fios These glasses are magenta/green, which means they probably won't be useful for much else. After you are done with them, you can throw them in a drawer with the yellow/blue glasses from the 3D Chuck episode.
Most 3D glasses are red/blue, but they also come in red/green, red/green-blue, & red/cyan, and then there are the polarized glasses.

| Re: Free 3D Glasses From Fios said by rockotman :said by GeekGirl1 :I was hoping that these glasses would be useful for something other than a movie. They are! You can make your own 3-D images with a digital camera and Photoshop. The one difference: Since these glasses are green and magenta, in step 4, select the red and blue channels vice the green and blue channels. Follow the steps carefully. I used a tripod to make sure that the two photos were individually aligned. This was for a different technique that I tried a few years back, as seen in this animated gif... Just got the glasses. Nice. I think GIMP can do the same thing.
The video clip looked OK, but not as good as your images.

If you want to see a real 3D movie, that uses clear, polarized lenses, then go to a 3D DLP movie theater. It is a night and day difference in what you see. and you don't get a headache from looking through those funky colored lenses.

What they need to offer is glasses that you put on that make this movie better -- People who don't get good service on average tell 10 others while people who do get good service on average tell 1.

At the movie theater the DLP projector is able to produce two separate frames so each polarized lens sees a specific frame. You can't do this at home.(I guess technically you can with a DLP projector and a PC and the proper software) At home it will be colored lenses and it looks like crap. Journey to the Center of the earth is a perfect example. At the theater there were clear polarized lenses. For the DVD and BD it has 3D glasses with colored lenses. A few minutes with those on can become very irritating

| I threw mine in the trash. However, I examined the glasses carefully before I tossed them, and it doesn't appear as if the technology behind these so-called "3D glasses" has changed at all since the 1950s.
If they're anything like their 1950s-1970s counterparts, the only 3D images these glasses will produce will be the headache-induced spots you'll see before your eyes after wearing these things for an hour. I actually can't believe they're still trying to market "3D" anything at this point. After all, who really needs "3D" in the High Def age?

I was surprised to find out that when 3D originally came out decades ago that they also used clear polarized lenses. But it was too difficult to keep the two projectors in sync back then. But it was very expensive so they came up with a cheaper and more feasible alternative for the times. Which is when the process that utilized the color lenses was used.

1 edit | Re: Free 3D Glasses From Fios said by rockotman :I saw the U2 3D show at the Bob Bullock Texas History museum in Austin back in 2008, while at an engineering conference. It was awesome. Definitely better than anything I have ever watched in HD. They used the polarized glasses for the show. The polarization technique yields a much better result. yes there is no point in watching a 3D presentation unless it uses the polarized glasses.
I've only seen the 3D in the regular DLP theater. I'm looking forward to seeing the 25 minutes of 3D in the next Harry Potter movie at the DLP IMAX theater(or should I say IMAX lite since it's at AMC)

2 edits | I got my (6) 3D Glasses yesterday and we sat down to watch Shark Boy and Lava Girl and I gotta say I was pretty disappointed. My twin 6 year old boys didn't like it either and we ended up stopping the film. So.. this morning I placed an order for a few "Pro-X Professional Anaglyph 3D Glasses" 3D Glasses from Rainbow Symphony. Hopefully these will yield a better viewing experience.
BTW - We were watching in a dark room, 5 feet away on a 47" LCD standard DVD playback from a PS3.
I guess you get what ya pay for -

The pairs you received from verizon are magenta/green glasses. They aren't compatible with each other. You can use the pairs from verizon to watch "My Bloody Valentine", "Coraline", and "Journey to the Center of the Earth".

Are you sure about that? The order form does not say this. When dealing with Verizon I would not assume that the absence of a price equates to free. Good possibility they will try to charge your account anyway, unless it is specifically stated as being free.

I would think verizon would recoup any kinda loss from the glasses, from the purchase of the movie on VOD. Since they probably bought these in bulk, the 6-pairs would end up costing $0.50-$1.50 depending on the bulk pricing.
